How should I test it different? I was literally showing how another adapter, connected to the same output and with the same cable to the same monitor, did work. There is one major player that uses OPUS for a lot more than "voice chat": Google's Youtube.

I realize this does sound rather counter-intuitive - and it is - but I actually convert OPUS to FLAC quiet frequently. The only reason to do this is that my Benjie T6 doesn't play OPUS but it does play 24-bit 48000 Hz FLAC files. On that note, the Ruizu 02 can play 16-bit FLAC files but it can't play 24-bit FLAC's so that's something to be aware of.

I would much rather do it the other way around, keep OPUS files ripped from Youtube and other sources as is and convert FLAC to OPUS for my media player to save space.

It's not like playing OPUS is that hard, all Android phones have been supporting it since Android 5.
