it cant possibly be this hard. how do Linux users deal with this on a daily basis?

It usually prints some error in a last few lines with the usual make. Googling helps.

>make [1] image
make -r image: build failed. please r-run make with -j1 V=s to see what's going on.

That's what i got. I mentioned in OP too. Asked in the forum and some guy said "start from scratch" (JUST). Then I started from scratch twice and still got errors.

Why don't you just grab a precompiled binary for your router from their website? You don't need to build it yourself unless there's something you want to change in the source code.

I want to include some packages and some configurations. I have some problems with paranoia and I don't want to connect to the internet to download those, packages.
I won't go into any details but I have my reasons to be paranoid (long story short: I got mitm'd).

I see. Well, when I compiled mine, I ran into the same issue. Turns out it was LuciSSL conflicting with mbedtls as the backend. Scroll up a few paragraphs in your error log to pinpoint the exact moment of failure.

If you see mentions of Luci before the failure, then you just have to run 'make config' again and make sure you don't have Luci and LuciSSL both included as they conflict.

That might be the cause, pretty sure I included lucissl as a package. Will try with the other ssl package. If that fails too I just won't include ssl. Thanks.

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
