You don't need winapi at all, for game use a real lib that supports Vulkan or at least opengl. DirectX is a marketing meme, if you're not sponsored by Microsoft to use, don't. Maybe one day they will ask you to port your game to it and pay you, but it performs bad.

Also crossplatform your game from the start, it will cost you nothing if you just do think modular at start. Des that can't achieve that are really fags I would never hire. Even if I hire someone for a Windows project, I always ask for Linux knowledge at the interview, if the guy is not curious or open-minded he's a fucking unworthy dumb ass developer. You can find hundred of thousands of these pajeet guys.
