If you want help:
>Assemble parts list

>State the budget for your build (and country if not USA)
>List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate
>Clarify your goal for build improvements: lower price or improved specs?
How to assemble a PC, select components & more (outdated)
https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php?title=Build_a_PC

CPUs:
No i5 unless discounted
>G4560 - poverty-tier builds
>R3 1200 - Budget builds (<$500)
>R3 1300x - Good stop-gap between the 1500x and the 1200, only get a 1400 if you absolutely need multithreading
>R5 1500x - Good but up to 1600 if you can
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; 1600x if you want higher stock clocks
>R7/Used Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/VM/mixed use; Not for just gaming

GPUs:
Coin miners have driven price up and stock down, waiting to buy a GPU might be wiser
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>GTX 1050(Ti) - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both
>RX570 - 1080p@60~hz maxed, running most maxed older games at 100~Hz
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@80hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; RX580 better in newer games
>GTX 1070 - 1080p@130hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p
>GTX 1080Ti - 1440p@144hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games
>Vega NOW.

RAM:
>Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM
>Ryzen CPUs benefits a lot from high speed RAM

General:
ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor.
The Ryzen lineup comes with surprisingly good stock coolers. consider using them over any <$30 cooler.
>>
I found someone local who is selling a GTX 970 4gb for $200. I have been looking to upgrade to the GTX 1060, but would the 970 be a good option to last me a couple of years??
>>
>>61909750
You're a retard if you think a $25 cooler will match the AMD Wraith Spire Cooler. If you're going to spend money on a cooler, $35+
Anything under that will underperform compared to the stock coolers

>but stock coolers
are shit on INTEL.
This isn't Intel you fucking moron. AMD can actually do CPU coolers
>>
>>61909589

>company is repeatedly beaten by competitors with less than 1/4 of the resources
>has been sued multiple times worldwide for anti-competition practices
>products have been beaten more often than not by competitors
>breaks contracts and bribes companies to not use competitor products
>jacks up the price of all their products during a time of no competition due to their own anti-competition practices despite their products having no real innovation or performance improvements.
>calling someone poor because they refuse to support such a moral-less company
No, you're just retarded.
I know this may be hard to swallow, but AMD processors are prices similarly to Intel at the moment, if somewhat cheaper. They also outperform Intel, and come with actual decent coolers that can handle a decent overclock.
On top of that AMD processors are all unlocked, unlike Intel who make you pay extra for overclocking, which defeats the purpose of overclocking in the first place.
>>

Yes. Go for it.

Nvidia GPUs are all still reasonably priced. A most you pay $50 more over MSRP, it isn't as bad a doomsday as people try to make it out to be.
>>
>>61909866
I waited fourteen months for you Vega.
When the price cut for the 1070 came /pcbg/ told me "You've waited this log might as well wait longer."
>mining boom wipes stock of midrange cards so prices are being gouged now.
Then you come teetering in over a year later, stinking of overclocked fury and still don't have your drivers together.

I give up this gen, buying a switch and waiting for the next.

fuck you /pcbg/
>>
>>61911130
really? Then gpus in general are crazy priced.

i've never built a pc in my life, and I've been gaming on stock laptops for over half a decade. Still, a 50's a 50.

Also, could anyone give me a good draft of a 1200 euro build?

i'm lying because i haven't seen vega 64 benchmarks but i'm optimistic. the only thing i wanted was a gtx 1080 AMD equivalent to pair with my xf270hu and it's looking like it's going to become a reality.

I play Overwatch and i might get a 1440p monitor soon, this is my first pc build, is it any good?
>>
Are vega 56s not up for preorder yet? can't seem to find one.
>>
>>61911368
Not really an expert, but it looks sound. You might want a hdd & ssd, instead of just one big ssd. You don't need one that massive to store and play Overwatch, and you'll save a few bucks too.
>>
>>61911471

Debating on whether to wait for the 1060 prices to drop or just buy a budget 1050ti. 1060 and the 5xx prices are too high at the moment. Upgrading from an old 560ti by the way.
>>
got an i5 4690k as a spare is it worth using or is it becoming obsolete?
>>
>>61911368
Looks solid. Though 1060 probably isn't enough to drive 1440p at acceptable frame rate.
>>
>>61911350
That's crazy. A little space heater. I love it. But still want my Vega 56.
>>
>>61911372
Not yet. Probably not til next week. But they'll sell out fast. Might have to wait til September.
>>
>>61911590
It's a neat little thing, pretty good specs, and all in a TIGHT 1000 dollar package. It looks good, but the noise would probably drive me insane, especially if I kept it that close to me.
>>
>>61911493
Optane is a scam.

Same ship as you. I'm just convincing myself that I can last another semester using the school computers during school hours only.

>source
i own and have numbers for a 980ti, 980ti sli, and 1080ti on a [email protected] at 1080p and 4k
for that price, i would though, you can always change cpu, overclock, faster ram, etc if you're not happy. the actual improvement will depend on your resolution and current gpu though

piece it out on ebay and buy a better performing platform, like a pentium on a b250 kek.

it'll be a solid performer for that, good price for the motherboard/cpu too, just dont overclock that 8350 on that board, will probably want to undervolt and lock at 4.0ghz
>>61912355
im pretty damn sure the 8350 will slaughter a pentium for compiling

I mean, what are your storage and performance needs? Do you stockpile media like videos? Keep the large drive, or better yet to 250ssd +1tb disk for best bang-for-buck. Do you do anything that will really take advantage of moar cores? I can't imagine a 1700 beating a 1600 by too much in games that only use 4c.
Oh, and that power supply is hot trash.

Since you already have that much storage, I'd honestly say go for the 1700/500GB SSD. You should install OS and the few games you play often on the SSD and shove the other games you don't play much at all on another drive.

>>
>>61914788
Corsair power supplies are on the lower end. They have very basic safety circuitry and thin gauge wiring which basically that means they're not ideal for gaming or crypto rigs.

Your power supply is definitely something you do not want to cheap out on. If it dies, it'll most likely take out the majority of your rig with it. I personally recommend this psu: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/9q4NnQ/evga-power-supply-220g20650y1

Definitely the 1600.

Both the 1600 and the E3 1230 v6 have similar
single core performance, but the 1600 has two more cores/four more threads so it destroys the E3 1230 v6 when it comes to multithreaded.

tl;dr: R5 1600 is a better value.

>>61917627
get a 550+w psu to allow for future upgrades. that processor will last a long time, at least 5 years so get a psu which can also handle any graphics card upgrade you might possibly make in the next ~3 years. it's not even a budget breaking upgrade either. probably a tenner max on top.

as for the gpu it's fine. just search google for a custom fan curve or make your own which allows your gpu to stay cool with that single fan.

both are fine. both are single fan and will probably provide similar cooling too. i'd personally say get the cheaper one as there will be very small differences between the two and they should overclock very similarly. pretty much every 1060-1080 can oc to around 2 ghz.

if you're worried about the quality of the inno3d one, you shouldn't be but if you want a known brand then i can vouch for the zotac mini 1060 as a few of my friends have it and it's been a very good graphics card for them.

Is it even worth upgrading?
Athlon x4 860k
8gbs ram
256gb ssd
AMD 380 2gbs

I've been getting into grand strategy again and games like total warhammer really stress my system to the max but it's still totally playable.

So I have two ideas.

I can build a amd 8350 machine which will only cost me a new psu, case, CPU, and motherboard.

Or

Build something with like a Ryzen 1300x or 1500. Which basically means I have to buy all new parts except for my Gpu.

I would prefer to stick with AMd for my next build and I'm trying to stay under 700$.

I just don't know if ryzen justifies the price vs getting an FX series which should be able to handle all the games I want to play anyway. Plus I imagine FX is better at compiling.
>>
>>61918025
Thanks.
I've never overclocked anything and so am unsure if I plan on doing that atm, but it's good to know it'd be decent.

My only concern was that there are little to no reviews of the inno3d one, but they're probably pretty much the same. Better than spending an extra £70.
>>
>>61918103
it's pretty hard to go wrong with ryzen desu, pick a price you're willing to pay and go for that one. I think you will see a pretty big improvement just from a better CPU and the same GPU actually.

DOCP is XMP equivalent, you will have to OC either way. I'm a little out of the loop but unless i'm mistaken DOCP3200 should simply mean 1 setting in the BIOS, so it should be exactly like XMP. Don't quote me though.

have i been lucky that my stock cooler on my 4690k has lasted for 2 years, never reapplied paste, and temps have only gone up 2/3

I have one OC'd and watercooled paired with an RX 480. I play everything at 1440p. The framerate in Overwatch rarely drops below 70.

Literally no reason to replace it.
>>
>>61920497
But is that only for the one saying DOCP?
I'm totally confused now.
Is it all defaulted to 2133 and will need to change setting to get the full potential?
>>
>>61920687
Yes. DDR4 always defaults to 2133 or 2400. Either way, you will have to go into the BIOS at least once.
>>
>>61920724
That's all good, thank you. I was unaware, but not an issue.
>>
How high off the ground should my pc be?

I've always just left it on the tile floor, but with a new rig coming in the mail I want to treat this one better.
>>
>>61920881
high enough to allow airflow in through the bottom. Do you have filters for bottom intake?
>>
Built a new toaster and I'm stuck on something. Everything is plugged in properly and I cant seem to get even to the bios screen, something like a no-display issue. No beep sound, OS either.

Have I missed something or fucked something? Any help would be great. And I'm sure that everything is fitted snug and even used the built-in gfx first so I can install in the OS.

All the fanless PSUs are in that range, get a Seasonic. Alternatively get an 800w+ and the fan will never turn on.

There's a barebone ssd (new) on ebay, save £15, worth doing?

I'm not sure why anyone is mad at vega, it was never supposed to beat the 1080. Everyone knows that Navi is where the real progress is being made.

Hi guys, going to finally jump to Ryzen from my 4690k.

Postproduction, motion graphics, 3dcg build upgrade, what do you think?
>>
Building babbys first PC, other than thermal paste what other little shit do I need to put it all together? Or do most things come with the necessary cables?
>>
>>61921773
>Postproduction, motion graphics, 3dcg build upgrade, what do you think?
R7 and an air cooler.
>>
>>61921735
Vega is just a waste of silicon.
>>
>>61921797
You shouldn't need thermal paste really, depending on what cpu you get and your cooling route.
>>
>>61921797
yeah you really shouldn't need anything as long as you get box components and not oem.
>>
Should I wait for volta?
I want a GPU.

Complete novice here. Are there any big problems with this build? - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/j38rjc

It's basically https://pcpartpicker.com/guide/yDFfrH/great-amd-gaming-build edited a bit for my purposes, so I'm expecting it to be pretty safe.

Also, are warranties from the retailer ever worth it? I'm inclined to think no, but there is always a nagging thought in my head that my shit might shit itself.
>>
>>61921797
If you're building Ryzen then some coolers might not have the AM4 mounting brackets. You should get them fairly cheaply or even free if you ask the cooler manufacturer. Front panel cables are still fucking tedious.
>>
>>61921904
That's if you're not using the stock cooler right?
>>
Help me decide. I need a new GPU and i have neither G-Sync nor Freesync, future upgrade is possible although unlikely. I simply don't play enough anymore, i just want to enjoy my games with nice graphics without lags.
Location is Germany. Budget, well i just don't want to overspend. Games: World of Warships, PUBG, LoL, Skyrim, Total War, Far Cry 6 in 2018. My current monitor is a 1080p 60Hz.
Originally i planned to get RX Vega, but it's a complete disappointment. The 64 costs 650€ and the 56 isn't even out yet but will cost approx 450-500€ i think.

Anybody use the Dell Optiplex 790? Can you upgrade the psu/Mobo?
>>
>>61921923
Of course the stock comes with proper mounting but after market ones still might not have included them in all of their packages.
>>
>>61921819
Remove the H60 and go for the 1700?
Worth the jump to 1700x?
>>
>>61922037
Just get the 1700. The X version and 1800x overclock less than 200mhz higher at best.
>>
>>61909866
It's going to be impossible to get a vega 56 isn't it.

Still have some hope left for the 56 but idk when a custom version will come to Germany and how much it will cost.
Considering reference 64 costs 650€ the 56 custom should cost 500-550€.
>>
>>61922870
Custom will probably $450 if miners don't buy them all
>>
think i might actually get a vega 56 over a 64. both can play all current games over 60fps at 1440p i imagine. i wanted to put 2 vegas in crossfire at some point but that would be ridiculous with the power consumption of the 64
wat do

do anyway.

Hoping to get into 4k gaymen, planning on upgrading to a 1080ti. Would I need to upgrade my old i7 2600k as well, or will that be enough for 60 FPS in most games?

Lower the fps the less important your CPU becomes.

Tough decision for essentially the same money.

Good Brand, air cooled, newer designed (11 gbps)

ok? Brand, hybrid watercooled, older card (Looks to be end of line/discontinued)

Virtually no difference. 550W is enough but i went with the G3 550W for my R5 1600 + either Vega RX 56 or GTX 1080, still in between those two.
