So I'm doing a web dev. degree, I'm mostly using adobe products and I code alot. I plan on doing a software engineering degree after this. I've been using a PC my whole life and I've recently started using linux. But I want to switch to Mac OS and dual boot Archlinux/Ubuntu/ElementaryOS, what should I do? Should I just stick to a PC?

If you want to use Linux get a Dell XPS for good driver support. Macs are fucking awful for Linux. I say this as someone who daily drives a MacBook and has used Linux on most manufacturers. Dell is better than most, even Thinkpads.

I switched to macOS 3 months ago after a bunch of threads on here and after watching YT videos on how to do it.

Basically, I just installed Hackintosh on a brand new SSD so I couldn't fuck up my Win10 install at all. Install was painless. It even installed bluetooth perfectly (something I could never get working right under Arch).

Anyway, take the Hackintosh route. It's fucking easy. Install is easier than Windows. Just make sure your HW is supported (TonyXmac86 will help you with that).

I'm also a programmer and macOS is the best for programming because of all the tooling for it (all the tools from Github that I use are macOS-first... that's one of the major reasons why I switched).

Good luck

It supports all the tools that Linux supports except none of the disadvantages, plus it has Xcode and Cocoa which are pretty nice.

Basically you have as much IDE support as windows, while keeping native access to the "UNIX IDE" with emacs/acme/vi/vim, clang/gcc, lldb/gdb, etc.

And the terminals have the advantage of being piped ttys that can get dumped and restored if something kill the terminal emulator, which is better than having all of them rely on one xserver.

So Linux is off the table. Premiere Pro and After effects render faster on PC, but the whole CC suite works great on OSX. I've found OSX better for creative tasks than Windows.

If you're used to Linux, you'll appreciate OSX. Then you can run VMWare Fusion with whatever distro so you don't have to dual boot.

How so?
If you go with babbys first Linux like Ubuntu, you will never have as nice of an user experience like Mac OS simply because Open Source fags can't into design and UX.
If you want to have a pleasant Linux experience you need to rice the shit out of it to come close to the comfyness of Mac OS.

Mac OS is not free you brainlet.
You purchase a license with the hardware you buy.
Notice how there is no way to purchase a license any other way.

I'd suggest reading the SLA too but seeing as you're struggling with 3 words you came up with yourself I don't see much hope here

here's some tips and recomendations:
-brew as a packet manager
-spectacle as a windows manager
-the unarchiver to extract files
-transmission for torrents
-liteicon to change the icons of the apps
-iina as a media player, it's mpv with a good gui
-openemu for retro games
-firefox or its forks for browsing, safari lacks a lot of addons imo
-appcleaner deletes apps and all of it's traces from the so
-if the so refuses to open an unsigned app, do a right-click and click on open
-avoid mackeeper at all costs, it's fucking aids
-check https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php/List_of_recommended_OS_X_software for more recommended apps and https://github.com/drduh/macOS-Security-and-Privacy-Guide for privacy-related things

>that your statement
>>Mac OS is free
>is plain false and you are too much of a fedora tipping neckbeard to accept that.
No it isn't. MacOS is free, you can download a copy right now and run it for free on a hackintosh. The fact that they don't sell it doesn't mean it isn't free - again, Debian isn't sold, but you can also download it and run it for free.
The SLA is not a binding document. No one has gone to court over it. You have no clue what you're talking about.
>>
>>61910032
>I accept your defeat.
I can smell the angsty sweat from here; you're pathetic.
Nice try weasling out of it, though.

>MacOS is free
No.
>you can download a copy right now and run it for free on a hackintosh.
You can download a copy of basically every software on your favorite torrent tracker without paying for it.
Going by your """logic""" all that software is free too.
I'm struggling to see how you fail to understand such an easy concept, if you are actually mentally challenged I'm sorry for pointing it out.
>>
>>61910174
But it's illegal pirating to run that software without paying. It's not illegal to download macOS. You can get a copy from Apple's own servers this moment for free.

I've never seen anyone this mad at finding out a piece of software is free.
>>
Late to the party, but if you want a Mac and don't want to build a hackintosh, check out the refurbished section on Apple's site and see what you can get that has discreet graphics. Tim Cook is really doing a number on Apple, and they've gone from being overpriced, to offensively wallet-raping.

I personally have a 2011 iMac that O still use and it's still going strong today. I personally prefer OSX over Windows. It's a great OS just make sure you get a good deal on the hardware.
>>
>>61910174
That software isn't free because of copyrights, not because of a ToS. You don't really know much about this, do you?
>>
>>61905969
27" imac is one of the best computers on Earth if you can afford $1700, put Windows on that through Bootcamp and you own shit for years.
>>
>>61905969
Don't dual boot Linux you nig. Just use Mac os with Homebrew and it's the same thing. Then you get to keep that battery life and consistent experience and still use the Adobe shit
>>
>>61910303
No, it's not the same thing.
>>
>>61910303

This.

Hackintosh is illegal (don’t listen to those excuses, it is not), and never works right.

macOS + Homebrew and you’ll never need Linux.

Also, I’ve bout a 5K iMac, it’s simply cheaper than a homemade PC, if you copy spec-for-spec, the LCD alone is worth more than 1300!
>>
>>61910367
Post pic of your imac 5k with a timestamp, rajesh.
>>
>>61910216
pirating a piece of software to use it without buying a license is the same fucking thing as using software that is limited to specific hardware on a different hardware.
to quote the Mac OS SLA:
>you are granted a limited, non-exclusive license to install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-branded computer at any one time.

Will you go to prison for it? No. Just as noone gives a fuck if you pirate/download a piece of software and use it without paying for a license.
That does N O T make it free tough. With software you usually purchase a license in terms of a product key, with Mac OS you purchase a license via the hardware.

The license is not a legally binding document. It doesn't matter what they put on there, it has as much weight as the back of a cereal box.
>>
>>61910387
To be fair that $5k for the pro, not the iMac that's mentioned.
>>
>>61910466
If license doesn't matter every software is free.
You can't just cherrypick licenses that match your shitty argument, my boy.
>>
>>61910519
Again, you don't know the difference between copyrighting and licenses. That software has a price, it's a commercial product you can buy, and distributing it is a copyright infringement. MacOS is not a commercial product, there is no price attached and you can distribute it all you want. There is absolutely nothing in the ToS forbidding you from building a hackintosh, it just says you can do X, it doesn't say you can't do Y. You basically have nothing supporting your claim.

I don't even know why I'm bothering, my whole point was that running windows on a mac at the very least means you're less likely to be poor, but you couldn't counter that so you held on to irrelevant documents with zero court weight.
>>
>>61910519
Are you stupid or something? It's not illegal to torrent photoshop because of the EULA, it's illegal because it's copyright infringement by the torrent hoster.
For fuck's sake, stop and think: if you never install photoshop, you never agree to the EULA, yet it's still illegal. Or do you think everyone on piratebay gets away by not signing terms of service?
>>
>61910592
>61910627
>distributing it is a copyright infringement
Of course it is - I never said it wasn't.
You however fail to realize that you don't have to distribute software to use it without a license.
If you simply download some paid software you don't own a license for and don't share it, you are not infringing copyright, but violating the software license, which requires you to own a product key to use the software. Which you don't have, but that DOES NOT MAKE THE SOFTWARE FREE.
If you download Mac OS from some source, you are not infringing copyright, but violating the software license, which requires you to own an Apple computer to use the software. Still not free software.

I'm afraid I can't dumb it down any more...

Using Hackintosh here, too, but without Tonymacfag's *beast tools. The best way is Vanilla way:
https://www.reddit.com/r/hackintosh/comments/68p1e2/ramblings_of_a_hackintosher_a_sorta_brief_vanilla/

Because *beast tools directly modify OS X installation, while with Vanilla install, all modifications are kept in a separate EFI partition, leaving OS X clean. The biggest advantages are you know exactly what is being modified, and system upgrades have less chances of fucking up your installation. It's a bit harder to set up, though, but worth it. Just make sure you have a backup plan. I use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a bootable backup of the Hackintosh in case of fuckups or disk failure.
