Is this a pretty good deal /g/? Its a refurb, but its a Hitachi. 20% off of $36 (=$28).
Seems pretty good for 2tb but am worried about failure.

Never use referbs unless you are the one pulling the drive.
You may as well just delete your data, because thats going to happen once you use that HDD.
Alright /g/, you have spoken. You haven't steered me wrong yet.

Understand what you're getting. This drive has sat in a server for 10,000+ hours and got thoroughly used. It will have significantly less life- so sure, use it, IF you have a backup system in place
Teehee from vibrators to industrial equipment hitachi's got your back
Been using a refurbished 4TB Deskstar for years, works great and only had a few thousand hours on it when I got it.
I lost the refurb lottery once.
never again.
All I heard before, dude, it's way cheaper and I never had any problem. But I ended up with the short stick. 80% of the price for a way disproportionate chance for problems is not a good deal.

Its a refurbished drive. But one from THE best manufacturers. Most of these have >10K hours already used but are rated for >1M hours due to how good they are.
Its cheap but sometimes reliable when money is tight.
