Heres the deal. I have a win7 and ubuntu dual boot system, and I have a kali usb which I created on ubuntu using the instructions for linux on the kali site. The issue is that when I plug it in and start my computer, it doesn't even recognise it and simply move on to the ubuntu boot manager screen. I've tried changing ports, the usb is recognised once I login to ubuntu but I just can't get it to boot fom the usb.
I also compared the sha256 hash provided on the kali site with the sha256 i generated from the .iso file, and they match.

I set that to boot from external media first months ago, and receched it after my first attempt at booting into the kali usb. Its all in order.
Also, I have a GParted live usb which boots just fine.
Please help me figure this out.

I don't know how they tell you to create the boot media, but
dd bs=4M if=/path/to/kali_linux.iso of=/dev/sdx status=progress && sync
Turn on computer computer -> Enter bios settings -> Select temporary boot device -> usb storage
voila

Maybe UEFI/Legacy shenanigans or safe boot or fast boot? Most likely either a bios problem or an image problem. Did you dd it over?

He fucked up making his usb. He probably unzipped it onto the usb and now can't figure it out. I didn't think anyone was too dumb to use rufus.

1. run ubuntu
2. remove all partitions from usb using gparted untill it show 'unallocated'
3. run this command:
dd bs=4M if=/path/to/kali.iso of=/dev/sdx (or whatever your flashdrive is) status=progress && sync
