Shit, I had a latitude d820 a few years ago. It had a fucking 1920x1440 screen even back then, with a core 2 duo or something. It was a fucking beast with a Quadro FX350, battery life was alright too.
A shame it died because Nvidia had some manufacturing problem at that time which caused their GPUs to die from the heat.

If it were still alive, I wouldn't let it go until it absolutely stopped working

I just bought a used Sony Vaio VPCEB23FM for 40 bucks. Spent 30 on a new motherboard, 30 on a new sound board (2 out of 3 USB ports were busted), but now it's working like a champ.

4GB of RAM, 320GB HDD, and a built in Number Pad. I'm happy. Startup is a little slow due to the boot encryption and the home folder encryption, but that's an easy problem to fix. I might even upgrade the Intel i3 to an i5, just for shits.

So after some digging it seems like it only has SATA and there might be some problems with SSD's on the D820. Oh well. I'll still give it a go though.

Don't expect it to last you for too long. Mine lasted as a daily driver for about a year before the faulty Nvidia GPU began to burn out on it

That sucks. The only reason I'm still using my old Core 2 Duo desktop because it has an SSD. It's decent for average tasks even if it's only SATA II. I can't go back to old hdds anymore. It's just too slow.
