$1000 for a 16c/32t CPU is hard to say no too. Just a few month back intel was selling their top Broadwell-E SKU for $1700, and there wasn't any real competition until Ryzen came along.
I might actually have to buy a Threadripper system just to cut down on render time.

I don't know about the 16 core but Intel's 10 core is pretty competitive overall to the 16 core TR, even when moar cores are utilized if you look at the benchmarks, that says something.

Not always
>>61865079
Every time, TDP isn't just power consumption and die temperature, they calculate it differently so it doesn't mean much. 1700 and 1800x are very similar, if you play around with voltages you can make them identical.

Only brain-dead idiots want to deal with a CPU that alone consumes 300W+.

This isn't the 1990s and early 2000s anymore.

You better hope your high-end AIO doesn't run into complications or the MOSFETs and VMR on your motherboard don't decide to give up the ghost six month or so down the road.
>>
>>61865238

LN2 is only good for suicide runs.

Condensation eventually kills your motherboard. LN2 gets to be pretty expensive as you need to go through kiloliters of the stuff if you want to run 24/7.
>>
>>61864982
Intel would overclock even better if they used solder and the IHS was within spec. I think the issue is that Skylake X was openly crippled by Intel just to save a dollar per CPU, and having to delid to overclock just means you were sold a defective CPU for $1000. Even if Skylake X completely destroyed AMD, you still shouldnt buy it due to how hostile it is to the consumer. It's just a bad product regardless of performance, you shouldn't have to delid a CPU under.any circumstances.
