Is blocking ads an efficient use of electricity, given that most blocked ads will be replaced by empty white rectangles, which are more expensive to display because they require the display to emit more photons?

Does this count videos or animated ads?
If so, yes.
>>61861417
clearly you don't understand how LCDs work
>>61861441
What about static images?
>>61861449
In my country there are only about ten LCDs

On LCDs the photons are created whether viewed or not. On most panels, the default state is to pass light, and applied ac voltage twists the light so that it is reflected/absorbed by the polarizer.
tl;dr: More electricity has been pissed away on this thread than would have been saved by disabling ad blockers.
Now kill yourself, Brendan.

it's not about lcd.
it's about flash and javascript ads that use cpu power.

Given the amount of processing power the shitty cancer ads will take up, yes.
