Do you suppose that there'll be an effective solution for the 2038 problem before we actually get to 2038, or is it going to be completely forgotten until the last minute like Y2K was, and cause massive panic and fear that our futuristic self-flying Teslas and IoT Toasters will all crash?
More importantly, will 4chan actually bother replacing the unix time image name format, or will just count back up to 1970?

Yes, unsigned 32-bit or 64-bit timestamps.

>or is it going to be completely forgotten until the last minute like Y2K was, and cause massive panic and fear that our futuristic self-flying Teslas and IoT Toasters will all crash?
I don't know any system where time_t isn't a 64-bit integer.

meh it will be fixed. It isn't such A BIG problem.

>tfw heat death and big crunch will happen before 292277026596

Really though, an alarming number of legacy systems are still putting along with 32 bits. UPS, for example, still uses MS-Dos and Windows 95 on some critical infrastructure last I heard.
21 years is a long ways off, but I'm absolutely certain that at least one motherfucker out there is still using punch cards in 2017, which means at least one motherfucker will still be using 32-bit unix time in 2038.

Yes, at worst it's going to be a small bug in some old tech illiterate dude's computer that he will probably ignore and move on anyways. Such a disaster.
If someone is still using MSDOS and W95 in critical infrastructure in 2038 then a bug on the calendar probably won't be their biggest problem.

So it's not going to affect us in anyway, also these don't use UNIX epoch timestamps.

This

>>61848129
It's already solved, you idiot, it's called 64bit system.
>>
>>61848226
Even 32-bit systems uses 64-bit timestamps.
>>
>>61848598
Not on Linux. But Linux 64bit distributions all uses 64bit timestamps.

I didn't fell for the year 2k meme, but when i was a kid, every Friday the 13th i refused to turn on my computer (pic related), scared that the Friday 13 virus would somehow destroy it.
I actually knew that the computer had no actual battery backed time, but just to be damn sure, i avoided turning it on.
>>
My company still produces and maintains 16 bit software. Shit like that doesn't faze me.
>>
>>61848653
You're an idiot you probably weren't even old enough to remember 2000
>>
>>61848717
Yes, i was pretty idiot when i was 10.
