Wait for the 8700k, it'll be 6/12 for the same price.
Launches this month.

Good call any news on the price?

>any news on the price
Not as such, but since even i5's are now getting 6 cores it's unlikely it will move by more than ~20€.
I'd fully expect the 8700k to go for the same price as the 7700k or the 6700k before that.

Cool I'll just wait. 1511 socket right? Or did they make a brand new socket?
no, the 4790k is a great overclocker. The only upgrade that would makes sense is 8700k/Zen/HEDT cpu for the extra cores. You have a great CPU and it will be good for years if you are mostly gaming.

Same socket but probably brand new chipset
>>61830476
Same socket as Skylake/Kabylake, but you'll need a Z370 or Z390 chipset.
Since you're on Z87/Z97 it's not a big deal, you'd have to buy a new mobo anyway.
Z390 is rumored to come next year with native USB 3.1 gen 2 and Wi-Fi.
