Like today I can create a private chat for 250+ people on whatsapp or on kik but what did people do 10 years ago?
Did private chat exist then or is it something new?
IRC was of course available but it had issues with anonymity and usability by the common person.
I looked into MSN messenger but they didn't release private group chat until 2008.
Facebook chat was not created until 2008.
Skype existed then but I am not too sure if they had group chat back then? I think it was a feature that was added much later.
AIM had chat rooms but did they have private chat rooms?
Nice reddit spacing, fag.
MSN messenger supported group IM in like 2004. I used it myself then. I was 14.
That said, people didn't really do constant group chat. There was no need or want. No phones supported it, and laptops were expensive. Teens would use it on their desktop mostly, and even then that was more than likely a family computer, not a private one.

i space like that because i have terrible eye sight and it makes it easier for me to read my own stuff

that's interesting but didn't the group chat end if people closed MSN like it wasn't continuous after someone created the group chat?
did it have a save and push feature?

me and my friends used irc 10 years ago and it still works fine for us now.
MSN/WindowsLive messenger.
Before that came along everyone used mIRC,

You need to be +18 to post here
We made shitty phpbb forums instead.

there really was only IRC or some sort of IRC based webchat.
When I started online, around 2002, everyone was on ICQ and AIM was for losers.
Pretty sure Skype had groupchats in 2007.

Me and my friends just used AIM, then MSN, then Skype.
Privacy was never a problem because no one is going to stumble into some random ass chat room that isn't advertised. We never had anyone randomly join our rooms in any of those programs.

I don't remember using anything for group chats. We'd just communicate with SMS/calls.

It never stopped being crap.

interesting. do you remember if it had save and push features for msn messenger. like if you were offline and someone sent you a message, would you receive it when you logged back in?

i looked into msn messenger and they had temporary multi chat features but group chats were not created until 2008 so i am interested in how people would receive messages if they were offline
