Do you use a custom BIOS for your x220? Which one?
Bonus: It doesn't make calls home

I'm on coreboot. Took fucking ages to actually get it to compile, but it's really nice.

For coreboot, yes, but a basic BIOS mod like adding custom images can be done with just a USB stick.

how do i coreboot????
I seriously couldn't find a coherent guide for X220s, and I'm a brainlet afraid of bricking so I don't want to improvise on my own

>afraid to brick a $150 device
Just jump in head first, anon. It's not a big deal.
>>61820449
It's like £200 at least around here
That's not catastrophic and I could very well replace it but it's still way too much money to throw away, not to mention the hassle of hunting for a good deal on ebay, making sure your got what you paid for, not having a working thinkpad until the new one arrives, reinstalling everything, etc.

What part of the UK are you in? I got mine for £120.
Anyway, it's pretty simple. As long as you have a hardware flasher (Raspberry Pi, some Arduino boards and similar stuff) you can make a dump of the stock BIOS, which you can restore to if anything goes wrong. Then, all you have to do is compile coreboot and flash it.
I used a mix of Karl's guide, Tyler Cipriani's guide and the coreboot wiki page on the X220 to flash. they all have sources at the bottom which can provide additional info.
It's definitely worth it.

Ah nice, thanks! I'm assuming this also fixes the ridiculous 10 second boot times you get with stock?
I got mine for £150, with a shaky hinge and a wobbly bezel. Most of the ones I see on ebay are around £220 (haha). I can see one single guy selling for £160. I'm in London but shipping accross the UK wouldn't be more than like £15 anyway.

Yep, although by default there's a 5.5 second delay for pressing ESC to choose boot device. My entire system takes ~6 seconds from initial button press to login prompt.
That's really weird, I got mine shipped from Portsmouth to Liverpool for free, with the X220 itself being £120. Are you looking for i7 models or something?
>>61820431
Just wait for the libreboot support, it will be out around December 2017.
>>61821337
I was actually looking for IPS models. Mine happened to be an i7, the £160 IPS on sale right now is an i5.
>>61822117
Wait doesn't libreboot not support IME cpus?

does it take 10 seconds for a thinkpad to POST?
