SD820 is still a very capable chip, it's only marginally behind the SD821 and that was good enough for the G6.

At least the G6 is priced accordingly, whereas the SD820 XZs was $235 more than the Mi6 with the SD835.

I'm thinking of getting an XA1 Ultra...
Talk me out of it, /g/?

Why I want to get it: huge screen, I love the brand and design of Sony, I assume it won't contain bloatware as it is by Sony, it's very affordable at around 340€ unlocked, and I don't use the camera a lot so I don't need it to be great... also don't need high end specs as I mostly just browse. Battery = decent is OK as I don't leave the house a lot : )

Will I be disappointed or is it a decent purchase?

Oy lads I'm looking for a good phone at any price with service available from Verizon
Currently I'm thinking of the Moto z2 Play as, as far as I know, there's know reason to get anything more powerful and there's no Chinkphones available for Verizon
Is this a good choice or should I look into a different phone?

i didn't read the whole thing but it looks like they didn't test it on actual phones. spoofing attacks have been demonstrated on older iPhones but not on newer android phones. there are different fingerprint sensor vendors; just get one that has an FPC sensor such as xiaomi mi 6 which has FPC1268.

a fingerprint scanner is more convenient than a passcode, you just press the home button to unlock. someone could look over your shoulder to see your passcode but spoofing the fingerprint scanner is much harder.

So what's the catch with Xiaomeme? How do they have such good specs at such a low price?
I'm trying to rationalize my Moto G4 Play purchase, but the Redmi 3S sounds better on just about everything and it would've been cheaper. I'm tempted to keep the Moto for the Nougat update as well.
Should I even care for an octacore and an Adreno 505 over a quadcore with Adreno 306 if all I do is play GBC/GBA emulators and a couple 3D games that already run fine in the G4P on low settings?

I can only tell you about redmeme note 4 global:
Bad camera (still good enough for passable photos when sightseeing (if the weather is good) and perfectly readable photos of notes/textbooks). If you don't care about camera it's a great phone.
Apart from specs which you can easily look up I can tell you it has way better cellphone reception than my previous phone (LG K10), good, very clear headphone output, good speaker, passable mic. It feels snappy, screen obviously looks good, fingerprint is fairly quick (maybe half a second).
>>

If you absolutely had to choose between the two I mentioned, which would you pick? Consider that I don't give two shits about the camera or this fingerprint sensor thing because I'm like a bitter old man and pattern lock is what I've always used, and if I buy the 3S locally it has a warranty regardless in case of any defect within 2 years.
Also, is there an ETA for Nougat on G4 devices yet? You should know I'm switching from a shitty LG L50 Sporty, so using the relatively low spec G4 Play is still blowing me away. That, and I don't know what Nougat offers over Marshmallow anyway, or if it's enough to warrant me keeping the Moto.

I'm pretty much set on getting a Moto Z. With the mods available I feel like it'd be the perfect phone for me. Also I need the AMOLED screen.
The question is which one though. I'd love dual sim, but the regular Z doesn't come with that. That's why I'm thinking about getting the Z2 play once it's available here for ~300€ or something.

reason I want dualsim is that you can get like 5gb of LTE for 10€ here, but as soon as you want anything else, like 100 free minutes, you're in for 30€+. I don't even need a flat, but those LTE cards don't come with a phone number and so I need a cheap prepaid card to use the smart device as a telephone.

Only bad thing is a poor camera. Do you know if that person will care?
If it's somebody who doesn't game but wants a good camera then Nokia 6 has flagship-tier camera, OK battery and SoC that is still enough for casual use (browser, social media, messages, calls, streaming).

Well, I'm an optimist. Apparently the release is soon and then I'll know more.

>ZTE Axon 7
That's a lot of specs for the money, no question, but I feel like I don't need much of the stuff this phone offers. Also I'm afraid of the stuff those chinks usually cheap out on, like the audio quality. A phone with shitty audio is next to worthless to me. I just don't trust the chinks, usually they cheap out on something and it's nearly always the stuff that's important to me.

Also I'm really into the modular design. The gamepad looks nice, the battery extension looks like something I'd definitely use and I want to get that power delivery USB-C power bank for my Elitebook anyway, so I could use it to load my Moto as well. If the keyboard becomes a reality, it'd be my perfect smartphone, apart from android maybe, but there's not really any good competitor, so I got to go with the flow.

That site doesn't exactly look like it knows what it's talking about. Mulit BA Inears usually perform shitty without next to 0 Ohm sources and they don't even slice that very important topic.
For example the iphone is pretty much as good as it gets in that regard, I'm pretty sure the ZTE won't be able to best that.
But anyway, I doubt that they lie entirely, the audio probably isn't bad.

>The Axon 7 sports dual Hi-Fi audio chips, which are designed to please audiophiles looking to hear as much sonic detail as possible. I took advantage of the phone's audio muscle to stream some Hi-Fi tracks on Tidal with headphones on, which allowed Thrice's "Hurricane" to hit extra hard with thick bass and slamming percussion. However, I didn't notice a huge difference when I played the same track in Hi-Fi on my iPhone.

you could always get an external dac. with more and more android phones dropping the headphone jack companies are bound to make decent slim usb-c dacs for phones like they do for the iPhone
>>
>>61820320
USB-C actually can output analog sound. You don't NEED an external dac, if the manufacturer knows what he's doing.
Not everything without a headphone jack needs an external dac, unlike the iPhone 7

>>

holy shit so headphone jack fags are just memeing and you can just use the included adapter and it will work just as well as with a headphone jack. still getting a dac can make sense if you listen to music a lot on your phone
>>
>>61820432
Have fun horsing around with a shitty adapter while I can just plug the jack in.
>>
>>61820432
They communicated that really, really, shitty. Google it and you'll find basically no tech portal reporting on it more than "USB-C can, in theory, do that, maybe, in the near future... or so, we'll see"

If there was something like the moto mod for all kind of smartphones, something you just glue to the back, that'd make me all over it, but the idea of having a DAC connected to my phone through a seperate cable makes me throw up in my mouth. I used to have a portable KHV and hated it for that very reason. It's just kinda shitty to handle. I'd much rather just buy a cowon or something.

It's literally like using the regular plug. I understand the hate for phones that waste internal space and don't implement a jack (see iphone 7), but there's literally nothing wrong for like 50% of users if you leave out the headphone jack.
>>
>>61820581
just bigger and harder to handle, more prone to disconnect
only shitty phones don't have the jack anyway so no real reason to compromise
>>

>>have manual labor job

>>
>>61820610
Well I can just argue on base of the Moto Z as that's the only phone I know that doesn't have one for a reason.
It's really thin, thinner than a headphone jack and with the mods you can use the saved thickness and add features you like, without bloating the phone too much.
Large battery? possible
better camera? shitty solution so far, but in theory
better sound? Sure, why not
possibly even adding a controller
all without some stupid cables floating around, or fucking BT draining your battery.
I like that very much, but you pretty much need a thin phone as base to make the idea worthwhile

usb-c will work on my phone and thats it.
>>
>>61820899

You have to start somewhere
>>
>>61820983
>USB-C will replace the jack there as well.
when you replace the devices, i'm not going to buy a new laptop, and desktop just to use my new usb-c headphones. my ipod isn't going to just sprout a usb-c port one day, and the tons of other devices i have wont get usb-c.

its a shit standard for anything other than data transfer, just accept it already for fuck sakes.
>>
>>61821035
If I accept it or not doesn't matter.
The manufacturers are going to push the standard, soon laptops will support it, then mp3 players and then you'll only find native USB-C headphones.
If you want them on your iPod without USB-C you'll just have to use a converter :^)

Be happy it's not like with the Lightning scam because if I'm not mistaken, that one really doesn't support analogue output.

>>61821175
>oh you're just over exaggerating i get it now.
I'm really not. Give it 5 years and you'll not see any smartphones, or maybe even laptops with headphone jacks. another 3 and you won't see headphones with them anymore. But it won't be that bad, as you can just use an adapter from USB-C. As long as it supports analog output that is.
If they ever go to digital out I'm all with you on your crusade against this insanity.

>>
>>61821269
As long as it's analog it won't differ. It's just a smaller standard and that's what the manufacturers want. The quality has nothing to do with that.
Smartphones get thinner, laptops too. In 5-10 years laptops will be as thin as the Moto Z, there'll simply be no space for the jack.

I have a Samsung S4 that is soft bricked, it gets stuck on "just a sec" when I turn it on and set it up. So I've been trying to flash firmware onto it using Odin. When the computer does recognise my phone, Odin gets stuck on "SetupConnection" or "Get PIT for mapping". It has never gone past those two. I have used every different type of Odin, 16 different USB cables and 3 different computers. Other times when I plug my phone in I get the MTP USB driver error. It's usually a Code 10 (device failed to start) but sometimes I just straight up get "Windows doesn't recognize this device".

I have looked up every video, read every forum and tried every fix I possibly can but am still failing to do something that should be incredibly simple. My brain feels fried and I genuinely don't know what else to do. Can somebody please help me before I shoot myself?

If the device is soft locked i doubt it will work correctly with windows matey.

Really? I figured as long as Odin or Kies recognised it I could flash some firmware on it.

What happened is I had it rooted with Kingo Root. a few months after that I factory reset the phone, not realizing I should have unrooted before doing so. When I turned the phone on after the reset, the phone gets stuck on "Just a Sec" when trying to do the initial boot up.

It adds a few additional options in the settings (some of them not so entirely stupid) and forces you to change launcher if you want to be aesthetic. One of the big issues with android is how many hands updates have to go trough to get to your phone.
Take a T mobile Galaxy S5 with a snapdragon 801

Qualcomm has to make a android kernel for any particular android version lets say 6.0.

Then Samsung has to make it work for there S5 and then push the update.

Oh no, Tmobile has to have there hand in also to "test" and add there own apps and customization.

If that isn't enough carries like to stagger rollout which can delay updates further.
You quit receiving updates when one of these companies decide they don't want to update no more. For the S5 it was qualcomm that decided not to update the kernel to android 7.

Why can't they just do it like Windows and iOS? PC makers also add their own bloatware on top of Windows but they don't need to "test" the updates before Windows Update delivers them to you, same for iOS.

Blade V8 Pro anon here, don't buy one
I've been fucking about trying to get into the bootloader after getting into recovery with the OEM Unlock setting on and off, and the device just won't let me, the bootloader is completely locked up by ZTE
However I did discover that if you press volume down and power upon startup that it causes the screen to go black with a white square in the middle of the screen with the letters "FTM" in black letter in the middle of the box

Carriers like to have control over devices it sells. I have no idea all the bullshit that goes behind the scenes with OEMs and carriers but I do know they can't fuck with iOS, Apple won't have any of it. As for Windows PCs being a open platform in general and I assume agreements with microsoft, no point in OEMs trying to control what is on a users PC after its been shipped. Cost more money than its worth.

Google isn't well known as a phone maker, its just another android phone in the ocean of android phones. Also google has no leverage over any non-google OEM's phones sold at carriers. iPhones are too valuable to lose, If T-mobile said to apple that it isn't selling another IPhone if they can't inject there shit during an update. Apple would drop T-mobile and Tmo would lose half its subscibers

The G5S looks like a massive meme to me. The improvements are just the most insignificant things, the guts are exactly the same except for crap like an extra MP on the camera or dust resistance.
Maybe I'm just being a bitter asshole but I don't see it being a big buzz over the regular G5+.
Then again, I'm not one to care about camera quality or said little things so maybe my opinion is biased.

I really like the specs of the OnePlus, but it's a little bit of a pain to get in this country and for some stupid reason I'm dead set on getting a white phone with an easy google assistant.

Do you guys reckon they perform much differently with the raw specs or does the build quality squeeze them a lot closer? Any opinions on this Oxygen OS shit they've got going on?

What format is the music? If it's an apple proprietary format like mp4 or aac your going to have to convert it to mp3 or another universal format. If you right click the song in iTunes it should give you the option to convert it unless you bought it like 10 years ago.

Nice price. It's a weird time to be upgrading S5s, personally I'm sick of Samsung I've had them since the 1st galaxy but I have no idea what else to get aye.

In Aus I've always just gotten them on plans for basically free but I'm not keen to spend $70/m $80/m extra for 2 years for another samsung.

>>
>>61827211
yeah I will. I rarely drop my phone (maybe twice in last 5 years), but I've heard the S8 can be kinda slippery.

>>61827230

Most people I know pay for them on plans, for flagships anyway. I had some money saved up, so I'm paying this outright.
>>
>>61827256
Diff anon here,
OnePLus 5 has "jelly screen"

Basically they mounted the LCD upside down and flipped the picture, so they screen seems to rubber band when you scroll.

You can sometimes recreate this by locking your current phones screen rotation to portrait mode, holding your phone upside down, and then scrolling back and forth.

I don't know whats wrong with the pixel other then I think its really fucking ugly and too expensive.

I am in the midwest USA and am on Verizon. Looking for a phone at around ~$400, $500 is the absolute most I'm really willing to pay unless someone has a very good reason for going a bit over budget. want the best phone I can get in that price range. Camera isn't too important, but having something decent would be nice. Want to make sure it has a good processor and ram, as well as at least 32GB of storage minimum(my current temp phone has 8GB and like 6GB is just the stupid OS) Would like at least a 1080p display and decent speakers, preferably on the front of the phone, but as long as the placement isn't retarded like the back where you hold it I'll take it at the right price. Would like it to be pretty clear and able to get pretty loud. I generally have to deal with a lot of noise and loud fans. I also want to be able to hear my music over my car engine while driving(it's pretty loud). Finally it should have good touch rejection while still be responsive while necessary. I'm sick of accidental clicks in my pocket. I was looking at the OP5 for a while, but it looks like they don't fully support the verizon network. please advise.

Hey /spg/ I'm looking to replace my HTC M7 as it's starting to show its age. The camera is cooked (thanks to that Zoe thing), the battery is stuffed (shuts off at 28% under some circumstances, and doesn't last a day), and the speaker is also on its way out.

So far It's a toss up between the Huawei P10 at $699au and the S8 at $899.

I'd be using it mostly for listening to a lot of music (the expandable memory is a rather big draw), watching videos and browsing. would one of these be a better choice than the other? I've heard that the P10 battery isn't enough to be used all day and that the screen isn't as crisp as the S8.

Or maybe is there a cheaper phone that can do what I want? With the limited accessories available for the the last two phones I bought, I'm a little gun shy about getting something not well known, but I can be convinced.
