Lest we forget

https://www.sammobile.com/2017/06/27/samsung-ui-fluidity-problem-needs-fixing

>Of all the current generation high-end phones that I have used (and I’ve used most of them), the Galaxy S8 and S8+ have the worst performance when it comes to scrolling and smoothness of UI. Even though the LG G6 and the Google Pixel have the previous-generation Snapdragon 821 processor, they fare better in this regard. Much cheaper phones from Xiaomi have a smoother UI as well.

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/04/samsung-galaxy-s8-review-shiny-new-hardware-meets-old-software-habits/5/#h2

>Actual in-app performance on the Galaxy S8 is not great. The Google Pixel raised the bar for what smooth Android performance looks like, and the Galaxy S8 just can't keep up. In the above picture you see Android's built-in GPU profiler mode. Each vertical line is the time it takes to draw a single frame, with the horizontal green bar representing 60FPS. Bars under the green line rendered in time, resulting in smooth 60FPS scrolling. Bars that overshoot the line took too long to render, resulting in a stutter in the UI animation.

>Even in the lowest resolution possible—1480×720—the Galaxy S8 still drops a ton of frames when scrolling complicated apps like the Play Store. The highly optimized Google Pixel—at its full 2560×1440 resolution—is easily getting frames in on time. And even if things do slow down, there's a sizable amount of render time still.

>No matter what resolution you pick on the Galaxy S8, scrolling (especially scrolling slowly) has this weird stutter to it and a slight ghosting effect. Not everyone is sensitive to small performance issue like this, but if you are, you'll find the S8 a little unpleasant to use. I wish Samsung focused more on optimizing the whole display and GPU stack to hit 60FPS and run more smoothly, rather than adopting the raw benchmark focus the company seems to have now.

is lineage worth it on the redmi note 4, now that it has gone official, how is the battery holding up compared to miui based roms.

I was using lineage on an ancient samsung ace 3 until I received my xiaomeme

currently on global stable rom, latest miui 8
I thought that it wouldn't survive a day with me, but miui is not so terrible, with a 3rd party launcher it can try to forget about the few annoyances, battery life is making me hang on to it, not having to charge your phones for 3 to 4 days is a good feeling.

I mainly just want a phone that's fast, with a good camera, and can run games well since I use my phone to kill time at work pretty frequently. 5.5" screen is nice but I don't mind larger stuff either.

Welp I cannot avoid the smartphone thing anymore I guess.

Northeast USA
Dunno my carrier, most of them seem to cover my area and points of travel
750~ USD budget
Size is meh, I feel stupid for adding this but my hands are not ogre or petite, 10 inches thumb to pinky and 9 inches index to wrist

Wanted Features:
at least a 3 hour while active battery life, or inactive.. or sleep mode or something.
music I guess. is there a way to transfer music from PC to smartphones like those old apple pod things?
GPS would be neat
access to video games and such since apparently square enix and other companies jumped to smartphones and shit
and security code shit because MMOs love those fucking things now and steam wont shut the fuck up about how precious everything is and celluarized telephones help
a decent camera, but I dont know what a good camera is since my old polaroid takes good enough photos of my dog and cat fighting over a piece of jerky

Other misc stuff:
Can I use my wifi at home for these phones to avoid monthly stuff or the others?
has technology advanced to the point where you can have portable pornography yet?
>>
>>61774544
And apparently a headphone jack since my 2006 buick lucerne has an aux jack only and does not have.. a smartphone snapper inner.

and I hear some of the newer smartphones do not have a headphone jack

I may not be major help because I just learned about this yesterday my self from the kind anons in this thread but It seems that your Redmi 4x has snapdragon 435, I was told that something like that was too low as one of the people who helped me had a snapdragon 650 and he too experience lag in one of his games. He then went on to recommend me to get a phone that at least has snapdragon 820 if I wanted a phone strong enough to play games on.

So I fucked up and did the normie thing by buying a Samsung s6 active on at & t's 'program' where you get 0% financing or whatever.

Now the touchscreen is unresponsive half the time and my phone is basically unusable. Now I would like to get myself a new phone that is inexpensive and reliable. I only use my phone for browsing and texting, maybe navigation.

So I could either get a cheapo common phone, a chink phone, or one of those old iphone SEs. I only really care about durability.

I am on AT & T in America.

Suggestions are appreciated

I've got a moto z play now, love it for its battery life and I'm worried I'll lose out some on the Xperia. On the other hand, I'd be getting the premium and I do miss some of the more premium features of a flagship.

/g/ seems to like it for the most part. The design is virtually identical to the iphone 5s, except they improved the processor, doubled the ram, and put in the camera from the 6s (minus the camera bump).

The main negatives are the small display and the ancient front-facing camera. Nit-picky negatives are lack of touch ID v2 and 3D touch, neither of which are on your 6+.

The camera is pretty good, focuses and snaps quickly and has a dedicated shutter button, though pictures can be slightly noisier than the real top tier shooters like the S8 and the Pixel if you zoom in very very close since Sony's image processing software isn't quite as super top tier as their hardware.

Is there an app or is it possible to make an app that can monitor/determine which specific part of the screen is tapped the most?

Or even make it app specific.

Get the flagship from two generations ago, theyre better than midrange chinkshit.
>>
>>61786990
The XZ Premium also has a pretty decent battery life, probably not at the level of your current phone as the SoC consumes more energy but for a flagship is really good. Also, the slow motion camera is a cool gimmick

>add another 25 for one month prepaid
>450 total
>get home
>clean up apps
>download a few apps
>hulu
>in south park mood
>7 hours later
>battery power light comes on
>takes aprox 25 min to charge it fully

I am a happy customer

What is the rationale for buying 800$ phones? It's just used to browse the internet and shitpost. A 2013-era phone does that just fine and will be 10% the price.

Better quality with a more expensive phone. I used to buy sub$150 phones but once I bought a nicer more expensive phone it's hard to go back.

>tfw a G4 Play is roughly 200$ in my local currency
I feel bad for falling for it, but I frankly cannot be bothered with buying it online and dealing with warranties and international carrier locks.
The worst part is they're actually being advertised as regular G4's which are marginally more powerful, but the average normie doesn't bat an eye while they take selfies and use Normiebook blissfully unaware.
I had just enough money to get a G4 Play, but I didn't see an actual G4 sold anywhere, and I'm assuming it would've been sold for more. Now I'm having second thoughts about buying the Play over a cheaper octacore Xiaomi with a better chipset, processor and GPU, gyro, etc.
I don't think I can swap it either, I'd bet my left nut they won't take a phone return to swap for a cheaper product.

I haven't done anything with overly high requirements, to the best of my knowledge (maybe some we're terribly made), but I haven't had any complaints. Only other phone was a CAT S60 for a month or two prior to this(couldn't root, returned to buy a good phone instead), and this is noticeably snappier, but I don't recall having any major issues with the S60 either. Only other Android device is a Shield Tablet, and this trumps that. Battery life, I work at Lowe's, so I have that app open in the background all day, and use it frequently to look up items, and I come home with 40-60% remaining after my shift+hour of browsing mostly Reddit at lunch.

iOS can't view webms

Split screen multitasking

Complete firewalling of anything

Piracy

Multiple application profiles (ie: 2 different Snapchat accounts active at once without logging out/in)

Background YouTube playback without ads

Ability to have black menus and overall style to complement AMOLED screens. (iOS is completely fucking white and like staring into the sun in bed)

Clover instead of using safari to browse 4chan.

No IR blasters on iphones (i control my lights, TV, stereo and TV box with IR)

System wide sound equalization and output boosting with viper4arise.
>>
>>61792151
Also, multiple user profiles. I've lent my phone to my gf and simply created another user profile. She can't access anything of mine at all and it's like a fresh phone. Get it back and go back to my profile.

You can also password protect access to individual apps as needed.

If your phone is from 2015 or earlier, every single brand dropped it, even xiaomi
>viper fx/system wide equalizer and output boosting
If your speakers and DAC are shit the only thing viper is gonna do is remove the volume limit, which means the speakers will be louder yeah, but sound worse

What's a good phone below $150 that doesn't have an underpowered SD625? Preferably with a Helio P25 or stronger.

I'm looking for a new phone and I've got a question, what's the deal with MIUI, is it android or what?
>>
>>61792846
XZ1 Compact was recently spotted on Geekbench, expect it in October probably.
>>
>>61793698
MiUI is a custom interface built on top of Android, which adds a bunch of extra features and seems to have the singular goal of wanting to look as much like iOS as possible.
>>
do we have an irc?
>>
>>61792917
All the "current" flagship xiaomis have ir blasters still.

Mi note 2, mi5, mi5s, mi6, and every redmi phone has IR blasters. The only xiaomi phone that doesn't have a blaster is the mi mix and that was an experiment phone.
>>
>>61786878
Looks like getting a second hand 6+ with more storage is all you need, you can probably find one at a pawn shop around $600-$750 with 128GB. A 6s+ would go about $100 more.
>>
>>61792917
>If your speakers and DAC are shit the only thing viper is gonna do is remove the volume limit, which means the speakers will be louder yeah, but sound worse

Actually I mainly use it for equalization of bluetooth audio for my car stereo. It lets me add a smooth bass spike at 80hz only so I can boost my subwoofer output but not the speaker bass.

I also equalize bluetooth earbuds when I'm biking.

I don't really use it to amp the phone speaker unless I really want to, but the option is there.
