It's not sold to escape the botnet, never is that mentioned, it's not part of the function set anons are buying. In turn, whatever verification system is used the function does not change, provided the verification is just as annoying, which isn't hard.

Wrong, the point of 4chan is only to ensure that users cannot tell who other users are. It makes no guarantees about anonymity in any other way, janitors/mods can see who everyone is and logs are kept for the purpose of complying with law enforcement requests. As long as I do not know who you are and you do not know who I am, the idea of anonymity that the imageboard was founded on is not compromised.

That's your interpretation. However, if the anonimity is expected within the community, why can't that be maintained afterwards? Especially for services that have fuck all to do to maintain 4chan.
I think it's only natural to expect the visible situation of anonimity to persist further through the system. That's the best case scenario. Google's recaptcha offers nothing that's not achievable otherwise while also getting us closer to that best case scenario of full anonimity.

Google is an unwelcome third party. I don't protest other systems in place because there are strict reasons for them. Not for Google. They are not equal to posters or moderators or the feds. Google is a parasite that needs eradication.

Why not build the verification system on a board centric basis? Each board's verification could be based on the "culture" / memes of the board. This has the added bonus of reducing / eliminating posts by newfags and forces "lurk moar".
