its actually better, considering the only way to get bitperfect audio on windows is to use wasapi and that needs exclusive control. look at the arch wiki page about alsa, it has a systemwide eq gui that i forget the name of and some other good shit you can do.

if youre on arch, use https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/alsaequal/. or, if youre using eq apo in windows, use https://github.com/bmc0/dsp/wiki/System-Wide-DSP-Guide this gives a script to convert room eq wizard (in turn eq apo) configs to ladsp configs and then shows you how to install and use it.
