fast, amazing screen, UNIX based, OS is excellent, customer service is the best on the market.
One time I was on an airplane and saw a guy in the aisle across from me using one of these.
It made me so god damn angry but there was nothing I could do about it.
Fucking shills these days. At least do something creative with it man.
Because the hardware is shit, anon, and I prefer GNU/Linux anyways.
>inb4 muh nvme
Hardly necessary, any SATA SSD should be good enough for the majority of laptop tasks and doesn't cost an exorbitant amount of money. What I care for, as a developer, is a fast, multicore (as many as possible) processor, and expandable memory (or at least 16-32GB default). I also don't give a flying fuck about customer support as I'd rather be able to service it myself.
that one is a justifiable purchase , i just fucking hate the 2017 """"PRO"""""
still would not get one as 1100$ would get a very very solid laptop , nowadays even w/ a gtx 1060 in it , way way better for actual "pro" usage
I'll keep my tower with 4 monitors.
fucking normies and their laptops
It's fine, but I have no use for a laptop.
Especially not one that costs $2000.
ESPECIALLY not since they ruined the once great 15 inch model by replacing physical keys with a fucking touch bar.
ESPECIALLY NOT when this change in the wrong direction made every single model ~$400 more expensive.
Back when I couldn't afford a macbook, they were amazing and I always wanted one.
Now that I could afford one, post-jobs-apple ruined the bloody things like they ruined all macs:
The Mac Mini is now a dual core at max and no longer upgradable.
The Mac Pro used to be one of the most beautiful, yet useful machines on the planet, now it's a literal trash can and has been abandoned since 2013.
The iMac is still way too expensive for what it is, although that 5k screen is amazing.
The Macbook Air is a pleb machine. "MUH THIN"
And the things they did to OS X / MacOS... good fucking god.
I was just too late.
At least you have the option in Windows to use an alternate shell (or maybe not anymore, haven't tried in Windows 10). Why the fuck would I want to use Unix when I'm not even allowed to install a tiling window manager (and don't bring up Amethyst or other shit hacks that are forced to rely on the Accessibility API). Finder is garbage.
needs some time configuring but it works flawlessly
careful, it's using a """""shitty""""" hack as per >>61801655, so you shouldn't bother even though it's working perfectly
It's not a tiling WM, it's a bunch of hacks on top of the Accessibility API that resize and move windows to provide a neutered set of functionality that resembles a tiling WM. This thing is a joke compared to i3, awesomewm, etc. I use a 2017 MacBook Pro for work and tried this along with every other "tiling window manager" for macOS. Enjoy your ~1s redraw times, having to restart the application because it randomly stops working and piss poor configurability.
macOS is garbage.
>spend $3000 on a laptop
>it has shit build quality
really makes you think
Let's face it, tech dweebs don't know the first thing about build quality. Shit, most of them still think 3d printing is revolutionary.... but have never heard of CNC. They think we'll be printing guns instead of cutting them out of metal.
Mechanically disinclined morons, the lot of them. A tech dweeb trying to judge build quality is like a woman trying to judge car performance by how pretty the dashboard is.
literally only restart it to reload changed config, not a single crash
absolutely fine as is
but go wank off to your riced off arch + i3 setup, I'm sure the 150+ hours you spend configuring it to get 10% better draw speeds will pay off when you show off in a screenfetch thread.
meanwhile I'm actually getting paid work done on my ultra comfy 13" 2015 rMBP.
>be regular consumer
>buy a $400 laptop on the recommendation of a bestbuy employee, says it is all I need
>it runs slow
>crashes a lot
>and now it has viruses
>get fed up and buy a near top of the line macbook
>costs 4x as much but it is totally worth it
>windows is a POS
And that is your average mac convert
They cheap out on windows and complain shit sucks
Spend an arm and a leg to get a mac and then praise it
>absolutely fine as is
1 second redraws? That's pretty fucking slow dude. You don't need to be a ricer to find that annoying.
What configuration options did you have in mind, when you suggested that people should spend more time configuring it?
literally an argument for macs, it just werks
>b-but muh $500 chinkshit has a better CPU
manchilds fail to understand that raw CPU performance just doesn't matter in 90% of use cases
having a good, well-rounded product you can rely on does.
literally every dev at my work (except for one who's using a thinkpad) has a recent macbook pro
Why would you care if somebody else cares that somebody else again is using a Mac?
Maybe he cares about that for the same reason you care what he cares about. Ever think about that?
So, you were locked inside an aluminium tube with the guy for a reasonable amount of time and you just sat their like a pathetic eunuch? You sicken me. You sicken me, and everyone else here you piece of shit. You filth. You reprobate.
I'm not measuring it but it's way << 1 second on my machine.
I could see that if you want to resize shit every few seconds you'll consider it annoying.
For my use case, I have 2 different profiles (internal only vs internal + external display connected), with a few rules to make my dev experience comfy in all circumstances.
e.g. external mode: email/calendar in a monocle on my laptop screen, bsp on my main window with iterm/chrome
internal mode: emacs/chrome fullscreen, one screen in bsp mode reserved for iterm, etc
I primarily use it to change between different windows/desktops and still use tmux/Emacs windows for my splitting needs.
If you want to manage all your splits via your WM that may not work as well, but I'm super happy with this setup
I'm staying on 10.11 (due to other reasons) and it werks fine
Do you call Linux 'GNU + Linux' too?
I'm not autistic enough to fight over terms, sorry
I'm the most productive on macOS, whatever floats your boat
All major OS have their strengths. I use Linux, FreeBSD, macOS and Windows and the latter is the only one I'd drop without hesitation if it wasn't for the software I use that only runs on it.
The cost of a product is one of the most important factors in its value to consumers. Most people could afford to pay $20 for a candy bar if they really wanted to, but the fact that it's so overpriced greatly diminishes the value it has to prospective buyers. I could just as well get a bunch of cheaper candy and eat it over the course of a month.
Apple electronics are for boring vapid people that have nothing better to do with their money.
How do I make chunkwm stop wasting my screen by surrounding every window with blank space?chunkc set global_desktop_offset_top 0
chunkc set global_desktop_offset_bottom 0
chunkc set global_desktop_offset_left 0
chunkc set global_desktop_offset_right 0
chunkc set global_desktop_offset_gap 0
chunkc set desktop_padding_step_size 0
chunkc set desktop_gap_step_size 0
None of that seems to work. Why would a tiling windowmanager default to such terrible behavior? 90% of the reason people use tiling managers is to take better advantage of their screen space...
Seriously, why aren't there threads like the ThinkPad autist threads for Macbooks?
I'm not even shitposting, surely there is a comprehensible list of the good Macbooks to date, even if nowdays they aren't so hot, that couldn't have been the case for the last decade.
I like the keyboard, even though a lot of people seem to despise butterfly keys. My hands glide across the keys when I'm sitting on a desk.
I'm used to using Cherry MX Blues when I type on my desktop.
I guess you can't besides monitoring your shit for 5 minutes to see. BST is an App Store app so it's in the walled-garden, if that makes you feel better for some reason. I've used BST for years now, it's dead simple and gets the job done for fast manual tiling. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Except these window managers can only be used with X11 programs. Native MacOS software can't be used with it, rendering any benefit of using MacOS moot if you want to use the WM and vice versa.
No, chunkwm is working with native MacOS software for me. But it's not very good, apparently you need to sink 6 gorillion autism hours into configuring this sort of thing to get the nice user friendly behavior something like AwesomeWM gives you out of the box.
facebook, twitter, chink-gentoo-searchengines, Photos when you already have iPhoto, iCloud, Siri, iTunes, App Store and herpderp integration in Spotlight. The rest is okayish, but that shit is just trash nowadays all around.
Not even a bluetooth keyboard with backlight or a package manager
>people defending macOS over windows
>apple shills won't fuck off
i wonder why the apple is biten.
>customer service is the best on the market.
Genuine conversation in emails with my grandad and apple support.
gd: "hello, i have a problem, when i try to load safari, the computer begins to slow down and safari never loads"
as: "Hello, sir. Im afraid this is an issue with the mac itself. I can refer you to the apple stores website to see what the latest mac book has to offer or we can arrange a replacement"
It pretty much what i would expect from crapple.
Screens nice though but, when your paying 2k for a laptop, you expect it to atleast look nice
>"Hello, sir. Im afraid this is an issue with the mac itself. I can refer you to the apple stores website to see what the latest mac book has to offer or we can arrange a replacement"
I read that in pajeet.
