/mu/ doesn't seem to give a shit about hardware
What's the best way to get music to play around my house without having to use my phone or any apps. I.e. CD Player/HDD -> Speakers everywhere
Run some speaker wire.
Have a studio apartment and use speakers. If you need more than one room, you're a normie. I can't even imagine what a non-normie would need multiple rooms for.

You can sync pulse audio across a network I think. Just get some raspberry pies and connect them to simple speakers. Then set up a main server with MPD.

Are there speakers on the market that can natively play a pulse feed? Yamaha Music Cast series comes with an ethernet port so maybe that?

Pretty sure thats called a) earplugs or b) proper fans since you wont hear a thing if you have some.

Use Orange Pi Lites. They're a lot cheaper and quite sufficient to the task. Just set them up to stream from an icecast server (or equivalent) fed by mpd, which afaik only plays media files on a local audio device.

Probably not, but you can set up a streaming server and make them play from it.

You will have better luck in /hpg/

Fair enough, just meant a lightweight and cheap linux pc really.

That doesn't sync audio I think, which would result in out of sync music if you go from room to room.

Doesn't solve the sync problem, but Icecasting would make the setup mostly speaker brand agnostic.
