Do old ones count? I spent my high school study halls playing Oregon Trail, Wheel of Fortune, and other old DOS games on this,

I should mention, the keyboard on that was great. Easy to touch type on when placed on a desk, but also easy to thumb type when holding with two hands.

I had saved up my money for a Psion, but was glad I went with the HP with DOS instead.

You could change screens on these.

I had one of these

it was useless besides the novelty
>>
>>61788308
never had one but I'm really drawn to them for some reason
>>

>it was useless besides the novelty

In 1997, wouldn't these have some use? The alternative would be giant heavy laptops with shit battery life.

Arguably today they are useless besides the novelty but at release wouldn't these have been useful
>>
>>61788696
well I couldn't use the modem because compuserve used something different technically. even had a nice technical support guy try to help me with it for an hour. I was a kid when I had it so I ended up just fiddling with it learning CE and playing solitaire.

UMPC or Netbook?
while UMPCs are slightly smaller, you wouldn't carry both with you, would you? so which one if you had to choose?

UMPCs are only x86 machines that are compatible enough to run Windows.
Why do you think you can say otherwise?

ARM shits are classified as PDAs.

Nobody ever mentions Pyra as a UMPC, not even Dragonbox themselves.
While GPD Win/Pocket is classified as one from the start.
>>
>>61791207
>UMPCs are only x86 machines that are compatible enough to run Windows.
they also have to be 7" or smaller :^)
but basically yes
>>
>>61791207
Are 7" x86 windows tablets UMPCs? Atom based phones?
>>
>>61791253
No, because they don't have keyboards built in.
What a stupid question is that.
>>
>>61791253

yeah
no

So this "Asus R50A UMPC" for example isn't a UMPC either?
>>
>>61791329
I'm not at all sugesting the pyra would be a umpc, I'm specifically referencing x86 hardware that is either intended to or capable of running a full version of windows.
>>
>>61791513
No, not really.
What would differentiate this from a x86 tablet?

Try to keep your shit together.
There are also several ARM machines that call themselves "UMPC", that does not mean we have to use the term so generally if it has always been a very specific class of machines.
>>
>>61791546
alright

>>61791586
you could say that it has a dedicated cursor input that is not the touch screen
but I agree, keyboard, x86, 7" or smaller, that's basically what I've always understood under the term UMPC
>>
>>61789709
Well Intel and Microsoft coined the term.
Librettos where always always called PCs and not PDAs.
>>
>>61791586
>There are also several ARM machines that call themselves "UMPC",

Which would be BS however I believe devices such as this Asus R50A fall in a distinct seperate category, namely intended use by the manufacturers that devised the term UMPC for marketing purposes.

>An ultra-mobile PC[1] (ultra-mobile personal computer or UMPC) was a miniature version of a pen computer, a class of laptop whose specifications were launched by Microsoft and Intel in spring 2006.

>Originally code-named Project Origami, the project was launched in 2006 as a collaboration between Microsoft, Intel, Samsung, and a few others. After largely been supplanted by tablet computers, production of ultra-mobile PCs were discontinued in the early 2010s.

>>
>>61791664
Did you figure that our now?
>>
>>61791700
Not really, just curious about the weird way in which some posters here appear to define UMPC.

Which seems to exclude quite a few of the original batch of UMPCs produced by those who coined the term, that may even have it printed clear as day on the housing.
>>
>>61791753
nothing weird, it's just autism
>>
>>61791753
That's because you haven't been into the UMPC fad from long before the term was coined.
>>
>>61791513
fuck no.
let the marketing goys call it however they want.
>>
>>61791848
>marketing goys
Kek. Reminds me of "mechanical keyboards".
>>
>>61791826
Nigger, you're as much of a fucking poser as the rest of them with that level of pedantic autism.
>>
