>how do you browse the internet without wifi
Not surprised by the reactions, but its funny how little windows has changed over the years. The UX is a bit better in some ways and a bit worse in others but the actual code (at least NT kernel onward) has remained mostly unchanged.
I've been going through the NT4 leaked source code for win32k and some RPC/DCOM stuff and comparing it to the disassembly of an up to date with windows 10 install and there is barely any change in most functions. And this is mostly code written between 1991 to 1996.
>tfw still remember one of my friends teasing me for still using Windows 3.1 after he bought a new computer with Windows 95
Some of those people have to be putting on an act. I'm 23 and the first computer I used ran DOS, then we had a w95, w98, ME, XP, etc. These kids are only like 4/5 years younger, yet they act like they've literally never seen a computer like this before
26. i'm pretty sure win95 was my first OS but i was aware of DOS because my dad owned a computer store so i was exposed to computing earlier than i can even remember. i remember my mom showing me how to save data on floppy disks. i was writing a terrible harry potter fan fiction (but i didn't call it a fan fiction) and saving it on a floppy disk that i kept under my bed.
but a 17 year old girl told me that i was "so old" when i was at a hostel last weekend...
windows is obsessed with backwards compatibility and it is one of the reasons each sucessive release since XP has been absolute garbage except arguably 7. it's just becoming too top-heavy and everything is becoming a monkey patch on top of a monkey patch.
>his router fucks up and needs rebooting
kek, RouterOS doesn't have this problem. Never had to reboot the router because of a issue with the router itself that would fix it. Probably Ubiquitis, pfsense boxes etc. dont have this problem either. When do people stop buying shitty routers?
>reeeeeee language has changed to fit the common context of society
english is literally just illiterate german with random latin thrown in. language is fluid and acting like you are above it makes you look like a sperg. like people who shit their pants because kids say "hashtag" instead of "pound sign". no shit asshole when was the last time you actually heard the word "pound sign" other than from yourself? and it was originally called an "octothorpe" anyway so the "pound sign" claim to legitimacy is hollow to begin with
kek, how did you get the idea i got mad over a wrong term, havent you literally seen that picture before? you missed the joke
you look more like a sperg tbqh, you started sperging over the difference between the term "hashtag" and "pound sign" and shit
Kids nowadays only have to push a clearly defined button to power on a laptop that comes preloaded with windows 8.1/10 and if they need to trouble shoot, the OS guides them through it.
32 later this year.
I like the react videos where the teenagers and kids react to old films/music/tech, because I don't interact with any kids at all in real life and it gives me an idea of what the fuck they even know these days in case I ever have to talk to one.
came with windows 3.1, but DOS was more useful than windows at that point.
I remember that Ultima VII was a bitch to get working right.
I needed to make a boot floppy that did something with the memory to get it usable by the game.
but damn, Ultima VII was a great game. It abandonware now and I still find myself downloading it and Wine'ing it
Not necessarily dumber, just more coddled. OSes will hold your hand as you troubleshoot and set up wifi/ethernet and if there's something you can't fix, you can always ask mom or dad to pay for you getting it "fixed" from gooksquad.
she was a slim little chinese girl (although she grew up in the netherlands). i have a gf tho and she was travelling with her mom (we were all sharing a 4-bed room). but if those two conditions were not fulfilled and she was into it...
Pic was the first PC we had in the family. It ran Windows95 and came with Moto Racer. I remember playing UT99 and the BEASTLY Trespasser at like 20 fps on this thing.
I still keep the PC, monitor and keyboard that came with it, but the old mechanical mouse broke many years ago since such things were prone to wear and tear.
Also why windows is a security nightmare. Using modern exploitation techniques on 25 year old code is like picking the lowest hanging fruit in the entire orchard. All these security "mitigations" they have added only serve to slow you down, but don't provide any real security.
Been here for 12 years. I'm sure i'll be here when I'm 40.
Started with DOS, then jumped to Win95 and progressed from there.
holy shit that yeti was an asshole.
how the hell were you supposed to evade him, i was never able to.
granted I was in grade school the first time that jerk attacked me and not very good at games, but none of my friends could ever get around that asshole.
have you ever evaded the yeti?
Just hit 25. What have done for the past 10 years that wasn't browsing 4chan ?
old enough to remember when this was state of the art.
I miss my old 800XL, 1050 floppy drive, 1020 plotter, and 1010 cassette drive.
while i'm watching /g/ user base changing
have been here 9 years ago
OP here. I'm 44 you newfags.
You will never understand the feeling when you hear a fucking dial-up connecting sound. Phone bills was sky-high. To download (openin in another window) a porn pic was a great success. Your eyes will hurt in the morning from crt monitor that was on your belly all night. Next morning in school you were like a zombie. for days and days.
I'm in my 30s. I grew up using a 133 MHz Pentium with 16 MB of ram and a 28.8k modem that I upgraded to 56.6k eventually. I think the video card was 8 MB AGP but I'm not positive.
When I finally built my first PC when I was 15 it had an Abit motherboard, 1 GHz Thunderbird AMD CPU and a 32 MB AGP video card. The craziest part of my build is that I put 512 MB of sdram in it which was insane at the time.
It was an amazing PC for the time, I put Windows 2000 on it and never upgraded my os until many years later when I eventually switched to Windows 7.
I'm 31 and remember all those things, grandpa. Dial-up modems and CRTs didn't go away until the early years of this century. I ran up my mother's phone bill many times via the Dreamcast.
Jesus Christ I'm only 20 and these kids are technically my generation. They had to have staged some of this shit. Everyone knows how to press the power button on the desktop pc.
I remember playing the Sims on windows 98, only because we were poor when I was a kid. My first PC ran Windows XP... In 2009.
Maybe its just that ive always used old shit. Hell, my main computer is from 2003, I havr a laptop as old as I am and I keep a desktop thats 30 years old.
But even then, that desktop isn't complicated. Big ass power switch on it.
I'm turning 30 in less than a month. I'm graduating uni this year as well. I'm on the cusp of either finally making something out of my life, or failing horribly and realizing the last 5 years were a mistake of wasted effort. I'm also starting to realize I have about 10-15 years left to decide if I want kids before I'll be too old to realistically see them grow up. Fuck getting older.
Had a bitch customer do everything she could to get me in trouble with my manager. Even lied saying I did something I didn't do. Manager asked her which employee was it (he didn't know the other guy was on lunch break).
>I don't know, just some kid that looked like he was in his early 20s.
I'm 44. I've never been so conflicted whether I hate or love a customer before.
