Additionally, the panels end up taking more space, and it's more difficult to show other people whatever might happen to be on the screen because it's designed for a single viewer at the focus point of the curve.

I suspect the curved meme is entirely because ultrawides are so wide it goes out of spec for what most of the shitty chink manufacturers can manage for their viewing angles. So it was either curve the screen or shit colors on the edges due to poor engineering.
