To answer the OP, no. $1100 is way too much for a fucking phone. I'm okay with my iPhone 5. I've had it for over 3 years now and it's still in good condition.

Reminder that you can multiply this with .3 to get an idea how much your phone is worth. Apple's financial statements reveal that they have a 70% profit margin (unheard of elsewhere in the electronics industry, got to admire Apple for this) on the iPhone. This works out to less than $330 worth of hardware for your $1100 "investment" (remember, retailer also gets a cut).

If you think spending $1100 of a phone worth less than $330 is a good idea then you're a moron and that is how I view anyone who's got an iPhone.

The iPhone is a non-option for me anyway, though, no headphone jack means no sale.

That's actually mostly not the case - which is kind of funny. If you had written $1100 between their hands or able to spend $1100 then sure, you'd be right. That's not the same as having a positive balance to your name, though, and those who are silly enough to buy an iPhone frequently have a negative net worth.

Let me put this another way: I own my home. I do not have any debt. None. No loan on my home, no car-loan, no credit card debt, no nothing. iPhone people tend to have more debt than their assets are worth (because they spend above their income on things like iPhones).

part. Phones just aren't worth that much to me. If the second iteration falls in price or they show up for like $400-700ish on eBay, I'll get one. No, my main concern with iPhones and iOS in general is the lack of customization, also, the lack of a physical back button creates an inconsistence within apps designed for the OS that I just can't accept because as phones get larger, still placing the back button at the top corner seems stupid for no reason.
