I recently had a difficult upgrade to 10.12.6. Now my iMac is doing fine until I shut down. All applications are quit out of, I do a normal under-the-apple-Shut Down, the screen goes to almost black and the cursor jumps to the upper left corner. That's it. I have to press and hold the power button to get it to completely power down. When I restart, I get the message that my iMac didn't properly shut down. I've reset the NPRAM, ran Disk Utilities, did an SMC reset, as part of the install, reinstalled Sierra—all to no avail.
Thanks Apple. It never works.

OP already said he uses a mac.

Just install a Linux distro if your iMac is already old OR, if it's a recent model and/or you don't want to use Linux then consider sending it to a non-apple repair center (they usually ask for less as far as I know). And as a third option you can always just get a image of an older OSX version and install it.

What year is the iMac? You probably want to get it checked out. If everything you did didn't fix it you might have a logicboard issue.
