Might be fake. Other reviews show GTX 1070 get much higher average fps on battlefield 1 at 1440p ultra than 72fps but who know...

Maybe the HBM2 starts shining in 2K+ resolutions, hence the rumor.

Maybe if you guys try really hard you might be able to fathom what factor would be in common between the sudden apparent increase in gaming performance of Vega 56 and the sudden apparent increase in Etherium mining rate?

Assuming they fixed the retarded memory bandwidth underperformance, you bet your ass they are.

IF RX Vega launches with the same ~300 GB/s memory bandwidth that Vega FE currently has then a whole bunch of people at RTG need to get fucking fired.
>>
>>61733377
Guess why RX Vega is delayed to 14th of August.
>>
>>61733403
>Guess why RX Vega is delayed to 14th of August.
As long as the issue isn't in hardware it's nothing that can't be fixed by putting the RTG driver team on a fucking Bataan deathmarch until they fix it.

What's more disturbing is how few people have zeroed in on the issue, even on B3D and the like. Worst case scenario, you can always do a 4-stack refresh and made damn sure you solve that problem.
>>
>>61733295
>SSG

What am I looking at the y axis?

I assume XX,XX GT/s is something related to memory performance, and that even though it is 5 times lower than the 1080/Titan it still holds up to their Random performance?
>>
>>61733464
That chart basically shows that Vega FE shows a significant memory bandwidth regression vs. Fiji. Testing of Vega FE has shown it to have a memory bandwidth of about 300 GB/s, which is way lower than it should be, in light of the theoretical 484 GB/s bandwidth of the two stacks of HBM2.

Vega is memory bandwidth bottlenecked in both gaming and Etherium mining, so the recent rumours of sudden increases in Vega's performance in both areas is suggestive that the RTG driver team may finally have started to fix the underperformance in memory bandwidth.
>>
>>61732723
>1070 level performance

Considering that it is cheaper than the 1070, I don't see the problem?
>>

Even the Bundles will probably go, since miners are known to buy full fucking systems and just rip out the GPU.

Even the RX 580's max OC matches the 1060 6 GB's max OC. And that's supposed to be nothing more than a factory OCed RX 480.
>>
Is there a reason why the lack of compute units would prevent the 56 from overclocking up to 64 speeds?
>>
>>61734379
Yeah both of you guys are
>>
>>61738220
Actually, the reduction in CUs should make it better at overclocking, since the architecture appears to be memory bandwidth bottlenecked in gaming and so maxing the memory overclock is likely to bring the best gains.
>>
>>61738253
So, only conceivable reason would be binning? Is it even possible to be so bad that it wouldn't be able to clock up to 64 speeds at all? Or, is this going to be like Ryzen and Fiji situation where all the chips are pretty much clocked to the max already? Look at the specs, it just seems like too much of a difference to account to just binning.

The reason people show synthetic benchmarks is because many game developers are inclined to either favor one brand or just have shit optimization on one brand. Synthetics supposedly create a level playing field.
>>
Friendly reminder to ignore the tripnigger.
>>
DX11 is such an old game engine it requires little optimization. Devs are very familiar with it. They were practically spoonfed it coming out of college. It's the reason you see very little performance increases in updated drivers. It's just a very solid platform to develop under. Heck the tools they use pretty much do the hard work for them. Nvidias GPU architecture is also old as fuck and just relies on die shrinks mostly. They rarely innovate to make games more realistic.

Oh! And it is also why Nvidia usually gets better performance with DX11 than DX12.

Meanwhile AMD innovates with new features. They pushed DX12/Vulkan so developers can do more with it. Create more interesting and realistic games. Allow developers to get closer to the metal etc. DX11 has had many years yo get to where it is now. DX12/Vulkan are only a couple of years old and only really have had work done on them in games in the last year. Give it a couple more years and you will see where this is heading.

If you wish to stick your head in the sand and just want 'muh fps' now grab an Nvidia GPU and play current and older games with DX11.

The only demanding one I play is Witcher 3, but that's a game that looks fine at 45 FPS. I'm considering getting a Vega56 if it generates less heat than a blast furnace (looking at you, reference 290x)

I need to reduce graphics setting quite a bit in newer games to get even close to 100 Hz in 1440p, so I'd like to upgrade.

If reviews for the watercooled RX Vega aren't utter shit and its power consumption is around 220 W - 250 W while gaming, I'll buy it. If its weaker or runs hotter I'll probably get a 1080 instead.

This, only plebs try and "futureproof" by using the same card for 5 years and gradually lowering settings more and more until you're forced to buy something new. The used GPU market is great (at least before the current mining boom anyway) I've found it's much more fun to just buy expensive hardware, sell it when something better comes out the next year and use the money to upgrade. That way you're never stuck with something so obsolete it becomes difficult to sell. The only parts that don't depreciate are CPU's usually since Intel's been so slow, even a 2600K can still fetch a decent price.
>>
>>61750431
used computerparts market is horrible. they sell used ancient technology for prices you could get simiilar performance with new low end parts with 2 years of warranty. fucking normies think their shit is worth gold if they buyed a GPU for $500 7 years ago

There are always retards who try to pass off a 480 or 580 for way too much money. Generally if you stay active you can find good deals though.1080's were $400 USD before the mining boom, when Ryzen came out you could find 7600K/7700K's for dirt cheap as well. Staying just behind the bleeding edge of hardware is where it's at, don't buy new buy stuff a half a year after it comes out and look for the inevitable first price drop. You can easily fuel a permanent upgrade cycle by staying active on Craigslist and Ebay.

Sure, they totally aren't already running at 1800-1900mhz out of the box

>Another intresting side effect of the LN2 is that VEGA's power draw fell of a cliff. Like 100W less than air cooled on +50% power limit. So the GPU core evidently is very happy with LN2 and could probably go well in excess of 2GHz with more voltage(I did all my testing at stock which is 1.2V).

very interesting. anyone has ideas for this behavior?

It's inefficient unless operating at subzero temps.

So, anyone want to even begin to try explaining how you add primitive discard to Vega--which Fiji did not do at all--and end up with way LESS effective texture bandwidth than Fiji and slower fillrates clock-for-clock than Fiji?

the drivers are not working as it should.

Drivers weren't working, or something's broken hardware-wise. Willing to bet it'd the former, or they wouldn't bother releasing anything at all. I am really interested in the re-test in 8 days.
