on buying a Macbook Pro 13" 2017 for $1909 leaf dollars for University and general use (no gaming, lots of essays and a bit of soft audio/visual here and there)

I'm an android and windows kind of guy but doing a fuckton of research I came to the conclusion that either the XPS 13 or the Macbook Pro 13" variant would suit my needs, particularly being lightweight and being able to get anything I want done as fast as possible; whilst still being sleek, and being able to last a few years.
I chose the Macbook Pro in particular because I've heard very good things about the touchpad and butterfly mechanism, which I think would make doing the work I need to get done much simpler; plus shit like coil whine makes me nervous at the prospect of trying to attend a lecture with an XPS, similar to how loud fan noises turned me off from the Spectre x360.
Price isn't a factor for me as I consider this an investment, and I don't particularly care about OS, as although it's gated as fuck, it has good proprietary software for pretty much everything.

I've thought about getting a Thinkpad, but I don't need a second PC, my desktop can already handle anything that would require a lot of horsepower. I need something I can carry around and use probably nigh-daily, doing most tasks I throw at it.

Why is my thought process wrong? Fix me.
