If I had to choose a secondary language for a big project to get some scripting functionality I go with Python.
It might not have the best syntax, but the thing works and there are high quality libraries for everything.
Perl is for the pure
Python is the most useful, but Lisp/Scheme is the most interesting to use.

I pick lua because it's easy to integrate in a program, making a fuckton easier to make changes to it without having to rebuild the whole thing or letting low level pajeets touch the C code.
