I live in Bangkok where this is common - and asked a cable guy when they hooked my house to fiberglass.
They have a pretty smart system, basically the kind of "rolling" and small colored clamps on the cable tell them which is what.
I guess it takes them years to learn, but they repair cables and put new lines in no time.
