Just found about 30MB of old text files I'd collected about anime from the late-90s/early-00s.

Some of them have had a wonderful amount of effort put into them in terms of design and formatting.

So ive still got a problem with my 380ED's screen

The Magicgraph 128ZV can do 800x600 in 16bit color.
It can also do 640x480 in true color, which is what i want.
The problem is that if i go to 640x480, it doesnt take up the whole screen. Its just a rectangle in the center. This was also a problem with DOS in 98SE, DOS and the applications would only run in 640x480.
Id totally go for 640x480, its only a 12.1" screen, id just like it to take up the entire screen.
Pic in a second

GPU driver is updated, i tried changing the displays driver to a 640x480 one, tried the original IBM driver for the display board, etc

trackpoint is only useful when space is constricted, not just on the laptop, obviously it was first made as a replacement cursor input device for very small laptops, but I mean your own usage space, like using it in a car with the front seat right against your knees
also great to use when standing up
else the trackpad is superior in every way
I prefer to have both options on my laptop
>>

i killed my t42 by stabbing it with a butterfly knife, after numerous hardware failures and issues with trying to install different operating systems, i later discovered the power board in the thing was pretty much dead and my bios had been corrupted by probably unreleated means, both USB ports died so installing a new OS was a no-go without a CD burner that i dont have
thing was a housefire even with a thicc cooler from an r52, loud ass fan, loud ass drives
and was on its last legs even when i got it

i still feel pretty bad about it, it was definitely a matter of me being incredibly pissed off and breaking shit

these are 386SX-20 notebooks right? try these settings and see if it works:

http://stason.org/TULARC/pc/hard-drives-hdd/conner/CP-2064-64MB-2-5-SSL-IDE-AT.html

the 60MB conners were common as fuck in laptops of that time, it's always worth a try

this shitter has one too that you can just barely read the settings on, it's different but you might be able to make them out if that link doesn't work

The G40 is cool looking but let's not try and dick-wave with the specs. It's probably the most pathetic excuse for a DTR notebook I've ever seen. That gutless shit's not "ahead" of anything but an abacus, and pretty much any good T-series or PowerBook would smoke that thing.

looks like i'll need to replace that battery, as it's not saving settings after reboot. in fact looking back at this>>61699955 I've noticed my setting for what i thought was getting the display to work right reset.

It did seem to auto detect a 152 mb drive at the hard disk D: slot when I went to that to enter in info, so maybe it does have some rudimentary hdd detection.

Also it seems that this page has a ton of 404s and isn't on archive.org. Better wget it before it goes down forever.
>>
>>61700718
It was only held back by its graphical capabilities. A max of 64mb of integrated video memory on slow ass ram was not great. But at the time it was still a fairly powerful mobile workstation. I use it mainly for AutoCAD 2005 and it handles that just fine.

The G41 fixed that issue by introducing mobile Pentium 4's and using an FX5200Go (I think thats its name) which was much more powerful and was like the modern day P series during its time. Powerful shit.

Socket 478 Pentium 4's in 2003 were still pretty bad ass. Especially since it could come stock with the 3ghz model.
The i/o on it is also very good, it had some great screen options and its built like a damn tank.
>>
>>61700771
Honestly windows ME runs fine on older hardware that was designed for 98, but if you try to run it on anything it doesn't have drivers on the disk for, your going to be in a lot of pain trying to get anything working right.

I remember installing it on a high end Pentium 2 dell and it ran really well on that machine.

Ever hear of the three living and the three dead kings? It's a theme during the plague, wherein three living kings meet their predecessors, each in an accelerating state of decay, the final of the three dead laments that "even the worms have abandoned me."

How much weaker were 8 bit home computers really vs early 8086/8088 based machines? The more I read about them, the more it seems like the Z80 was as capable as (although slightly slower than) those processors and the main difference for most applications was the amount of RAM the machines supported.

The 6510 in the C64 for example was no slower than a 8088. Even though it's clock speed was 4x slower.
The Z80's where very capable. Both the Z80 and 8086/8088 where based on the 8080.

Dark spots caused by dented and misformed sheets in the screen can be slowly brightened by letting an ice cube in a baggie sit on it with the screen off to let the film contract back into its original shape
Then you turn it on and let it warm up to set it
It doesnt remove it all, but its turned some very dark spots into a mere shadow that is unnoticeable outside of solid bright backgrounds

Holy shit. Is this achievable with the 6502 as well? I remember seeing OSes capable of multitasking written for the C64, but I'm pretty sure they couldn't do swapping and weren't compatible with other existing software.
>>
>>61704689
No, not that I know how. Technically anything could be implanted with software routines, but as far as the 6502 goes, it's only GEOS. I know of *NIX likes that try hard, more like fun projects, but they aren't fully developed or compatible.
Though the C64 had a Z80 cartridge and the C128 had a Z80 already built in.

>A thick R series with a low-end desktop Pentium 4, infamously shitty Intel IGP and a 1024x768 display is a "fairly powerful mobile workstation."
Christ, man, is this bait? Go flip through a magazine or something and see what the fuck that thing was competing with, it won't hold a candle to any actual contemporary mobile workstation like a T40p or Precision M50/M60, no matter how "fine" it may run a fucking 2D CAD program.

The G41 isn't that much better either, that thing was sporting the cheapest of 2003's FX series GPUs. In 2005.

My head seriously hurts a little from trying to wrap it around the thought process that directed you to write this post.

>R series
did you pull that out your butt?

That's what it practically is. It occupied pretty much the same price bracket in their lineup and serviced a similar market. It was an "affordable desktop replacement," it sure as hell wasn't a workstation. Even with the 1400x1050 display option that few people ever got with them.

Most of my experience is on Ts and Xs since I have a fetish for the most expensive shit of a given time period, but the Rs I've worked with have been nice too and I don't really mind Gs either, they're totally fine for their intended market and price range.

The 40 series in general were pretty great, probably the last generation of ThinkPads I consistently like, even though I think they could have done a better job on the high-end offerings.
