i'm on Pale Meme so a chrome extension won't work for me
ublock can override styles just fine with element:style(color: green !important)
the thing is, let's say some site sets the text color to blue by default, then there's some annoying inline-style which makes the text color red, you could override the color back to blue with color: blue !important, but then if the defautl color changes to some other - you won't notice because you've got blue hardcoded in ublock
so i'm looking for a way to prevent an inline style element from actually applying to the site at all, instead of forcing my own styles with ublock or stylish or something

Using Asus S200E as my work laptop and it's running super slow on Windows 8. Only an i3 and 4GB memory. It takes ages to load anything and Chrome will crash every now and then for instance.
How much would an SSD help? Or is it worth just getting a new machine?
>>
>>61699137
An SSD will help for two reasons:
1) much faster loads on the OS and programs, and
2) you're gonna have to start from scratch which is great because it sounds like your laptop is just full of garbage and bloat.

Seriously an i3 3xxxU with 4GB DDR3 has no inherent reason to be as slow as you describe, even with a hard disk drive. I know because I gave one to my parents and it runs great. There absolutely has to be some degree of cruft going on there which needs to get removed.

Why can't I find a cable like this that is capable of powering a 3,5' HDD?
Isn't USB 3.0 and 3.1 supposed to deliver enough power to charge a Macbook?
>>
>>61699449
Most of those cables are designed for portability/cheapness, so the leave out the 12v needed for larger drives. Also they can't rely on people knowing to plug shit into a specific kind of usb. You'll probably need something with an external power source.
>>
the USB power delivery spec is still pretty new
PD1 profile 3 should be enough for most 3.5 hdd's (12v/36w), if you have both a computer and adapter that supports it

not all usb 3/3.1 hosts support the power delivery spec, and there are multiple profiles for different voltages/amps

Hi /sqt/.

I have a speaker that takes RCA cables as an input. With cables connected to my computer, everything works fine. No stray voltages, nothing.

With no cable connected and the speaker switched off, I discovered that the cable terminals were going live (240V(ac) where I live), which I confirmed with a multimeter. When the speaker was switched on, this dropped to 90V(ac).

I plugged it out, and reversed the plug (two-prong plug, no ground). After this, with the speaker switched off and no cable connected, the terminals sit at 6V(ac). However, when I turn the speakers on, it again rises to 90V(ac).

Basically trying to figure out, is there any possible way this 90V ac signal -should- exist on the RCA terminals? Or is it time to return the speakers as defective/dangerous?

Anybody good with circuit diagrams? I understand the the LEDs are wired together by the anodes in the columns and cathodes in the rows. But for the 50 pin breakout on the left, is pin 1 supposed to be soldered to the anode of column 0? And then later on is pin 33 supposed to be soldered to the cathode of row 0? And if so, do you solder the wire to the preexisting piece of solder or just anywhere on the anode/cathode?

Using bitcoin for example, mining combines a log of transactions + a random number, which is then encrypted, if the checksum of the result (which is also effectively random) is below the current target (a very small percentage of attempts are) the resulting message is accepted by the network.

Other networks can include extra data as well as transaction information into the chain, for example Ethereum lets you run small programs on the network with the result added to the chain.

The reward for mining is they can add a transaction for the current reward value to any desired address, with that virtual money coming out of thin air. That can then be sold on an exchange.

3.5" hard drives (and 5.25") use 12V and 5V power, USB provides only 5V. There are some enclosures that'll do the USB 5V to 12V conversion, but they're not that common, the usual method is a separate power brick

I have about a $1200 budget. I was going to build a desktop but this will suit my needs in terms of hardware. I would just want one that natively runs very cool but don't know what brands to look for. you could try the shared library build, or of course you could build it yourself (though that can be pretty tedious to get started on, as ffmpeg has a lot of dependencies)

I'm looking at two cheap laptops. One has an AMD A12-9700P, the other is a Core i3-7100U.

Which one has better integrated graphics? I expect the Intel chip to be faster but I question the quality of the HD 620 graphics. I only expect to run games like Battlefield, Overwatch, etc. on low settings, 1366x768 and 8GB of system ram. I don't do anything else except surf the Web, shitpost, and write code on my laptops.

Try connecting a high-value resistor in parallel with your multimeter and see what the voltage reads then. A 460k ohm resistor should get you 1/8 watt at 240V, or use a higher resistance if you want to be conservative.

>dualboot
dumb idea. Your windows install is going to clobber your boot loader next time you install windows updates, or something random is going to happen and you're going to find out one of the 1.5 million ways to fuck up your boot loader configuration and make your system unbootable. I hope you like looking at your boot sector with a hex editor.

Invest in a 2.5" hot swap drive bay and just swap to your drive with the other OS on it when you want to boot the other OS. Way less chance for fuck-ups.

Good luck getting any warranty support.

How do 4chan bans work? I have been banned 2x now will my bans just keep getting longer and longer and longer or will it be like a CSGO thing and after a week it reduces the time I am banned for?

hold the f- up, while i was checking if my harddrive were fine just because. i found that my 2 new harddrives say ATA instead of SATA, isnt ATA the old IDE format or something? they are 3 caviar blacks, the ones that says ATA, are the new ones, and the SATA one has 7 years on it
>>
>>61704292
Ah so the mods literally just type in ban for x days?

Did you plug it in with an SATA cable? If so, it's SATA regardless of what the test software says.

For anyone wondering you can't use normal wildcards in ublock but
>boards.4chan.org##.postInfo.desktop > input
seems to work without breaking anything.
You gotta use ##. and then element class.
Turns out I had a good idea from the start but in uBlock you have to exchange the spaces in class name for fullstops.

my butt is full of questions now, yes i connected it with sata. still, anyway to benchmark a hdd? i noticed i transfered 70-40mbps hdd to the other, they are all black.

That's what I've pretty much been doing, windows on one drive, Linux on a different one, but I paid for an SSD and windows is only using 40% of it, my debian install is only around 40GBs, so I wanted to dualboot on that drive, I do regular backups so if it fucks up i won't be crying to /g/ about it

I've got a 1TB ssd and I forgot to make partitions when I installed OS.

Not really. It was barely risky 10 years ago. If your life depends on it you should have a backup anyway.

Linux is a kernel (the core of an OS). It's used as part of many different operating systems including OSes like Arch, Ubuntu, Fedora, et cetera.

so it's basically just a building block or foundation which many people have built many specialized OSes on

old caviar does 90mbps on read, so i guess the new drives are good enough, i always get the feeling new stuff are worse (which in a lot of cases is)but i still have to consider it has 7 years, and i almost never turn off the pc.
im too paranoid with data loss

When i take a picture on mobile and upload it to 4chan, it rotates.
How do I stop this??
>>
>>61704977
rotate it ahead of time
the orientation of the image is stored as EXIF data, and supported image viewers use that to display the image with the appropriate orientation
4chan has stripped EXIF data from images for a while now, due to it also containing GPS coordinates (if the camera supports it, of course)
since the EXIF data is stripped, there's no way for your browser to know the image needs rotating
>>
>>61705033
I do do it on my phone.
However the images stay the same.
>>
>>61705074
whatever you're using it just updating the EXIF data, then
you need to re-encode the image, in the proper orientation

I apologise, anons. I was simply messing around, typing in reverse. It takes too much effort to keep that up, rather than simply using some free online service to reverse it myself, or fucking around with tags to do so without further hassle.
