Graphics card designs are stupid since you see less than 10% of it when you look through your Gamer Case™ with a Tempered Glass Panel©
The only reason why I got a strix version of the 960 was because it had the best cooling according to the web
Couldn't give a fuck about gaming memes as long as it lasts more than 3 years

I swear if a semiconductor was released with a red PCB every gamer fag would buy it

Gamers are the worst breed on the planet

This is one thing AMD does get right...

They don't "force" the card to be 2 slots, so you could change the cooler out and the bracket and have a single slot gpu.

NVIDIA keeps putting fucking DVI ports on the cards to prevent that.

6990 is two GPUs, the fan would sometimes sound like a leaf blower. But HD6000 cards had some impressive performance/watt at the time compared to Fermi, so this design was just efficient enough to keep this monster cool.

cooling on every of the 290s across universe sucked dick. The card has a 300W TDP and the shit AIBs put on there isn't rated anywhere near that.
also that "uber mode" switch did jack shit most of the time as on reference cooling it would just hit the temp limit 99% of the time.

Even after putting pic related on my 290 it would get as hot as 80C.

>cooling on every of the 290s across universe sucked dick

Nope. Both the Sapphire Tri-X and especially the Vapor-X were amazing coolers that more than handled the heat. It also had a 250W TDP and consumes just under that on average under gaming load. Nvidia cards of the era used almost as much power (the 780 Ti uses around 15W less on average), so it's not like it was THAT much extra to cope with.

Asus' cooler was shit because it was repurposed from the 780 didn't make proper contact with the Hawaii die, since it was a weird thin rectangle shape. MSI's was bad due to a tiny, thin heatsink (but was later improved with a revised one with more surface area), XFX's had garbage VRM cooling (again later improved with a revision) and Gigabyte's was just really loud.

PowerColor's 290X PCS+ was also just fine come to think of it.

Powercolor PCS+ was a great cooler, shame quality control is virtually nonexistent for them

half of them shipped with quality BIOS as far as I remember, and it was pot luck whether you got Hynix or Samsung VRAM which had pretty considerable performance differences
>>
>>61692465
Yeah, I remember the issue with the VRAM. Though it was Hynix and Elpida as I recall. I think the Lightning was the only card that shipped with Samsung VRAM (another good card). The review samples had Hynix chips, but the retail cards shipped with Elpida trash initially. I think they blamed it on some shortage.

I like the look of the 480 Nitro+ better than the 580 Nitro+. The side looks cleaner without the heatpipes sticking out. Of course, the aesthetics are pretty much the only thing that cooler had going for it. It was really loud and didn't cool particularly well, which is why they changed it for the 580.

I have the RX 480 Nitro. It's only loud because of retarded fan settings Sapphire used. After some tweaking it runs at 72-75C with fans spinning at ~1300RPM making them practically inaudible. And that's at stock Vcore and clocks, without undervolting.

Last night my screen suddenly went green and then doubled, but offset, so there were two instances of what should have been the middle of the screen and an overlap in the middle, while the left and right edges were being cut off due to the offset.

I assume this is due to GPU failure, it's a 770, definitely wasn't my screen as it was fine after I shut my computer off giving me the Output 1 feed.
So uh, don't care much about aesthetics, but I do need a new GPU.

Why the fuck is everything 400 dollars even the low range cards?
Why are the mid range cards 600?
>>
>>61697446
Blame the coin miners. They've bought up everything new and recent. You're basically stuck buying a 3-4 generation old card until the card stock recovers, if it ever does.

Crypto-currency miners are the fucking worst. It's why a lot of stores, both online and in person started have a 1 or 2 card limit per person to try and stop miners from buying them all up.

Anyhow, you can still get a gtx 1050 ti 4GB for around $150 for a good one now. The 1050ti offers slightly better performance than your gtx 770 using much less power and pumping out much less heat. Most 1050ti cards run off of pcie based power alone with no 6 or 8 pin even needed. Pic related is best bang for buck of the 1050ti's.
>>
>>61697555
Okay 1050 it is then.
I'm not necessarily looking for best bang for buck, but best card that won't break the bank here. What's the best version of 1050 to buy? ASUS, MSI or EVGA?
I doubt Gigabyte has their heads out their asses yet.
>>

>>
>>61697580
MSI is run by a bunch of furries and they love to slap their stupid dragon logo on everything. Unless you buy their vastly inferior "armor" cards.

Asus is kind of middle of the road. They've been all about RGB shit more than actual cooling performance lately.

EVGA is hands down best card brand if you're buying Nvidia. I've been buying EVGA since gtx 4xx series of nvidia cards and haven't had a single one die on me.

And fuck Gigabyte all around. I've been burnt by their motherboards and video cards alike in the past. Shit VRM's. Mediocre at best cooling. Terrible aesthetic.
>>
>>61693892
The extra space on the Water Vega is taken up by a pressurized reserve reservoir. One of the problems AiO coolerss have is that over the years, they lose pressure via osmosis. By including extra water in a reservoir, the life of the cooler is extended.

>Zotac
Used to be the cheaper and underrated underdog of nvidia brands. Sister company of the AMD exclusive Sapphire company. Zotac amp! Extreme cards are to this day some of the best overclockers and well cooled variants available. However, as their notoriety has gone up, so has their price. A good Zotac card is usually the same price as the other brands now
>Palit
That's more of a Europe brand. Buying Palit in US is rare unless they have a huge sale for some reason
>XFX
Used to be one of the number one AMD brands because of their killer warranty offered on all their cards. Warranty was transferable from person to person as it was tied to the card via Serial number, as opposed to the individual. Dunno if they continue this. I do know that XFX makes one of the best RX 580's. Their GTR Black edition is actually binned by XFX for overclock-ability.

I build PC's for clients as side work for fun and pocket change. I've had hands experience with many brands. I've come to trust 3 brands exclusively because of reliability, cooling, and customer service.

>AMD Cards
Sapphire
If sapphire is unavailable, Powercolor
>Nvidia Cards
EVGA
>>
>>61697768
I can confirm that XFX is one of the better ones. I have their HD6870 - working well to this day since 2010. Then I recommended their R9 290 to a friend, he's still running it.
They skimp on cooling, though.
>>
>>61697768
other anon here, sorry for asking more about these brands, but what do you think about PNY?
>>
>>61697894
>skimp on cooling
Yea. Their cooling would be considered "sufficient". It could be better, but could also by much much worse. (See Gigabyte's r9 290X coolers)
>>61697910
PNY is not bad by any means. I kind of consider them to be a "luxury" brand. Not because they're the best, but simply because they're expensive. My friend swears by them because due to their price, PNY practically offers you a blowjob if you ever call about a problem with one of their products. The extra money you pay is like paying for the killer customer service.

As far as cooling and clocking capabilities versus the competition, they're OK. Middle of the road. PNY seems to be kept alive via word of mouth and fan boys of the brand alone.
>>
>>61697975
Oh thanks, I had a completely different idea about them.Strangely enough, the cheaper cards you find in my country are made by PNY and some shitty national brand.
>>
>>61698050
PNY being an out of country brand might be why they're so expensive in the US.

Pretty much all brands these days are decently reliable. PNY wouldn't steer you wrong.
>>
>>61697975
PNY is kept alive by being the company that manufactures Quadros and Teslas for Nvidia. They're far more business-focused that gaymer-focused, which is why their GeForce cards are all reference PCBs with cooler designs licensed from other companies.
