i use 800x600 for FPS games because its the only way to achieve 144 Hz on my CRT
i had friends come over and ask them what they thing the resolution is, they usually say its 1280x1024 due to the fucking amazing scaling CRTs perform.

>using an OS that uses the pointy nose face as one of its primary program's logos
>>
>>61675040
This is the only correct solution.

I got a 40" 3840x2160 myself and wish I had gotten a bigger one, the pixels are a tad on the small size on this for 100% DPI but I make do by using increased font sizes in programs instead of increasing OS DPI size (because Windows DPI scaling still looks terrible in most cases).

>>
>>61675256
>scaling
Damn that sucks. Only suggestion I have is if you're on windows 10 is to find a program that makes windows use the less shit windows 8 scaling so half your apps don't look like they're from a screen capture in a youtube video by some kid on how to get free minecraft accounts
>>
>>61675339
As said, I'm really fine with just increasing the font size on the programs I read text the most on, plus using zooming on websites in my browser as necessary. It does reduce real estate slightly but at least it looks decent and doesn't strain my eyes. All in all I'm still highly satisfied with my 40" 4K screen, it's simply wonderful for productivity purposes.

>>
>>61675412
16:10 is great but once you go beyond 1080p (or 1920x1200 rather) 16:9 is entirely workable due to the overall increased screen real estate.

Though not like you have much choice these days...

I think I'll gift myself 2x4k or 2x8k monitors to christmas (depends on market and price obviously).
Atm too greedy to buy two new monitors, don't want two have one different resolutions and dont want to have only one monitor.
Also I think 1440p will be ded soon and 4k will take over pretty quick - the prices are even now nearly the same

1920x1080 24" here.
Pretty much this. 1440p doesn't scale well with 1080, so for pixel art games it's total shit. 2k does scale well but good luck buying a 1080ti just so you can hit 60 fps on anything.

dual SXGA master race

SXGA is the perfect resolution for a maximized window at 100% scaling - not too wide, not too small. and you can view other standard resolutions with different aspect ratios (1280x960, 1280x800, 1280x720) without scaling at full screen width. it's also the absolute cheapest option so you can have more of them

SXGA+ and UXGA are also acceptable but they don't come in cute 17"
