PSA: KDE is broken on Arch Linux. Even with a complete default install, after a random amount of time Dbus server will essentially break, you cant open any programs until reboot/relog.

Exact error message: "Session bus not found\nTo circumvent this problem try the following command (with Linux and bash)\nexport $(dbus-launch)"

Time to install Gnome?

Jus trying to save people some time.

How? Only 400mb with gnome 3?....

When I use Gnome 3 it takes around 800mb o 1gb idle.
While KDE only takes 400~450mb, based KDE.

But I still prefer Gnome 3, something in KDE does not feel right.

So... How did you make Gnome 3 uses less ram?

Enable autologin in Users if you don't switch users (you can still lock it if you need) else gdm runs another gnome-shell for the greeter. There's a bug about it, maybe they'll make it on demand but who knows when, still at least there's this workaround which saves some 100-200MB on my pc. It starts at 440 or something and goes to about 550 or 600 and may go down back to bellow 500 some time.

I've been using KDE on arch since plasma got semi stable and it has been rock solid. I'm not even meming it hasn't crashed a single time in the 7 months that I've been using it.
Yes I frequently update arch. The single problem I've had in years was infinality dying. Thats it.

Cool opinion bro. In my opinion fedora is fine because it "just works" out of the box on my old ass laptop wirh 512mb of ram. It even miraclously plays 720p anime without any problems. I will definitely try it again when i run into any problems on other computers.

>Time to install Gnome?

If you want a desktop environment, yes, you should have done that from the start.

KDE is slow buggy shit which uses more harddisk space than Windows 10.

On the other hand are you sure you want a full DE ? A window manager is lean mean but will need some tweaking, also you will need to pick and chose your components to mirror the functionality you get 'out of the box' with a DE.
>>
>>61683390
(You)
>>
>>61675465
for:
>pacman -S gnome
all you need is:
adwaita-icon-theme
eog
gnome-control-center
gnome-keyring
gnome-session
gnome-settings-daemon
gnome-shell
gnome-shell-extensions
gnome-themes-standard
gvfs
mutter
nautilus
xdg-user-dirs-gtk

technically you can get rid of eye of gnome (eog) as well. it be very basic though but its a working foundation. gnome-extra is of course, just extra garbage like gedit. with above you'll pull in around ~450mb worth of packages. such as pulse audio. if you really want to use gnome i would advise installing a few packages and setting them up first beforehand like pulse audio and bluez.
