Why does unraid require disks to be wiped when adding them?

My understanding of the technology is that it should only require rebuilding the parity disk if an already populated disk is added.

I've got a Twitch channel I've been running for around 6 months now, where I pick a book and read it out loud to my viewers for a few hours a day. It's been gradually growing in popularity and I enjoy doing it for the most part, but recently I've got a copyright complaint from the publisher of one of the books I've been reading. It seems they're happy enough as long as I move on to something else but is this going to be an issue going forward? I was under the impression that this was fair use, just like someone streaming footage from a game they are playing or something. What exactly is the difference here, if there is one?

Does a lightweight OS make that much of a difference when using it on a laptop running on battery? Let's say, if I were to switch from Windows 7 to Xubuntu on my x220, would it last that much longer or is it just a matter of a couple extra minutes?

For starters, audiobooks are a thing. Streaming is (at least arguably) fair use because the actual "work" is in the player experience, and watching a stream doesn't give you that. For books, the actual "work" is the writing(the plot, the characters, etc. not the precise form printed on a paper or screen), and it makes little difference whether it's spoken or written.

i'm a usb junkie, i use usb a lot and the motherboard i bought only came with 5.

so i've built a pc for the first time, and basically i get no video output whatsoever through hdmi
the gpu is an rx 560 from gigabyte and i think it might be the culrpit in this case
the display is also new, so at first i thought the display could be faulty, so i've connected it with hdmi to my old pc and it worked
then i've reset the old pc and to my surprise, i didn't get any video output until after my os actually booted and only then i could see the cursor and stuff
i've taken the old gpu out of the old pc and swapped the new rx 560 to that old radeon hd3870 and connected it to the screen through D-SUB (VGA) and it allowed me to see the mobo's splash screen and i was able to boot a clonezilla live usb key i've got lying around so that would mean the mobo, cpu, ram are all working as expected
now i'll try to make a bootable windows usb key to try and install windows on the new pc using the old gpu and then switch to the new one to see if i could get video signal over hdmi when windows actually gets to boot

is it normal that you can't see the mobo's splash screen, the POST procedure, the bios settings etc over hdmi?
the new rx 560 also has dvi-d and display port (the monitor has both as well) but i can't try any of these because i've got no such cable
anyone here was in a similar situation? what do?

Ok so /cyb/ seems a little dead so I'll ask here. Im new to Wireshark and all this stuff, im trying to capture a 4 way handshake to decrypt traffic on my own network. Whenever I deauth, or reconnect a client being any of my phones or my laptop I can only see frames 1 and 3 of the eapol, having the AP mac as source and the client MAC as destination. I just can't seem to capture the client to AP frames. My card is set to promiscuous mode currently, I think I know what's wrong and that's that I need to use monitor mode for this, because promiscuous only captures local traffic meant for any of the clients on the network but since the client eapol ends with the AP I will never see it as it's never forwarded to anyone.

Can someone tell me if im wrong?

My dad fucked up a windows update on his computer and now it won't start with the error "A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed 0xc000000f". I tried using repair media but it can't repair, can't reset Windows, can't system restore. I looked it up already and a lot of suggested were to try rebuilding the BCD, so I attempted that, but after renaming the current BCD and attempting bootrec /rebuildbcd it still couldn't find any Windows installations. I don't care enough to try to fix it anymore so I'm just going to make a Live CD to get the files off the drive and restore everything completely, but while i'm waiting for it to download is there anything else anyone could suggest to try?

I've been googling this and all I see are bullshit answers. Why does windows 10 randomly detect SD cards? And it's not just the SD card itself, but even when the SD card is insert into my camera, and then I connect the camera by USB, it's STILL RANDOM. This has got to be a software issue. Sometimes it detects the SD card using both aforementioned methods and sometimes it doesn't. If I connect my phone or any other device by USB in the exact same port, however, it will detect it 100% of the time. Windows 10 just seems to shit itself on SD cards. I have 3 different SD cards from different manufacturers and it does the same thing for them all.

I had this happen, it was an issue with windows "ejecting" the card reader itself instead of just the card, when I went to safely remove. So it wouldn't work again until replugging the reader. The solution was to eject the card from my computer (or "this PC") instead of using the icon on the system tray.

Just rebuilt my Thinkpad T420 after swapping parts between it and another more beat to shit thinkpad. For some reason, this CPU is hitting 70C-ish. This i7-2620m is only a 2c/4t CPU so I don't see why this fucker is getting so hot.

if by condition you mean the fan and thermal assembly? The CPU and heatsink were both cleaned with a Q-tip and 100% alcohol. Made them both shiny. Re-applied some IC diamond paste and was good to go. This ain't my first rodeo with thermal paste.

The cooling fan spins with no squeaks and I can feel it dumping hot air out the side vent of the laptop. Although if I'm being honest, the fan doesn't sound like it's spinning as fast as it can.

Hey guys, so I think one of my audio ports on my PC is broken. Her'es the deal: I was watching youtube videos, and then all of a sudden, no sound was coming out. yea you have a bigger problem going on. What kind of power supply do you have? What brand? Make? Wattage? Sounds to me like your motherboard might be getting dirty voltage if not just 1, but 2 things on your I/o died.

Long story short, say the power in your house is known for droops/spikes in voltage. A good power supply in your PC will handle those and deliver clean/stable power to you PC. A mediocre or just plain old/beat power supply won't. Dirty voltage can start killing things.

Beside if he have some companys botnet to look at him it will makes him guilty anyway

Any good (i mean like really really) to check on my hdd? I know there is default app on ubuntu but can you recommend me smth else? And if so should I do the scan on empty drive?
