[Pic non related] Hey g i was looking to get into programming ( i want to be a web developer or maybe a game programmer / designer ) thing is i have no experince in code what so ever and i have weak math skills. I was wondering if you giys could tell mr if this is a good course for someone like me to take: http://www.senecacollege.ca/fulltime/CPD.html , Any help would be appreciated!!
Sorry for some typos. On mobile
You'll be passed over for people with actual CS degrees. Self study, or go to university. Don't waste your money on college (for any American anons reading, Canadian college is more like a vocational/tech school).

But i dont have any university prerequisites and dont have the money to pay for that. And how would a self taught be more saught out after than a college degree?

I only have C level high school credits and didnt take a math or science course in grade 12

I didn't have them either, same boat as you...only C level. I went back to adult high school and got them. Gave me a solid math foundation and prepared me for university. But if you can't afford uni, I guess that's not an option.
It's not that self-taught would be more sought after, I just think self-taught + a decent portfolio would be equally as good as a 2-year college degree, and wouldn't cost you any money. However, if you're not motivated enough to do it on your own, I guess college it is.

This wasn't a knock on you, btw. I'm quite the procrastinator, so I doubt I'd have learned as much if I didn't go to school.

>This is what people with CS degrees actually believe.
Did you get that memo about the TPS reports?

Context. All I was saying is why pay a bunch of money to get a vocational degree that's going to look inferior to a CS degree on paper when you can self study and build a portfolio instead.

if you dont mind me asking what kind of resources did you use when you self studied and how long did it take you to become capable enough to be considered for hire?
>>61612310
sorry nvm i think i misunderstood you

Any honest opinions from people that have attended one of the three or any bootcamp for that matter?
Got into galvanize and flatiron. Galvanize is hella expensive but seems like it has better resources/career services. It's also a 6 month program.
Flatiron has a good rep and actual job placement history. Also only 15k and roughly 4 months.
Haven't applied to app acad yet but I doubt I'll get in, that would be the most ideal place to make it into

how did you go about upgrading your courses? did you go back to highschool.. how does the process work because for me i cant learn on my own through self study im just not good at it. i need a professors/teachers guidance and inputs

Yeah, my city has a couple of adult high schools. First one is a self-study style. You take a course at a time and finish it at your pace. Second one is like an actual high school with classes/teachers. I started with the former, then finished with the latter because I could take 3-4 courses at a time. Honestly, the real high school was the better experience. Even socially, it was pretty great since everyone around you actually wants to be there.
So just look up what adult high school options you have in your city, and go from there.

t question e info, how long is the program in adult highschool and did you have to start from grade 9 math u and go all the way up to grade 12 math u?
>>61612758
As long as you need to get your prereqs.
The C/U/M track starts in grade 11, so if you don't have 11U math, that's where you start. Then I did advanced functions and calculus & vectors. Also did chem, physics and english, both 11U and 12U. It took me about 2 years, but I could have done it in 3 semesters had I started at the real high school.

well im now mature status so i cant believe i already forgot that the C/U/M track doesn't even start till then. final question are you currently in uni for CS? do you feel like that the adult school prepared you enough? thanks for all your help i really appreciate it.

Yup, going into my last year. And yes, it did prepare me quite well. I had no issues with any of the first year math courses, whereas I saw people struggling with calc because their algebra skills were weak. It would have been much harder if I had come in without it.

You've already lost.
Improve your math skills or you'll never make it
