To be fair DC power grids are viable now and are actually more efficient for long distance transfer. I was actually talking about this with an anon the other day. The thyristor tube and higher voltage rated IGBTs allowed for switching converters that can output up to a megavolt DC.

When Ediston was alive though a DC power grid was highly unrealistic and AC was definitely the way to go though. He backed a losing horse at the time even though that horse is starting to catch up now.
