My 1TB Seagate drive has finally died on me after 7 years of heavy usage (I had backups, that's not the point). What are some of /g/'s favorite HDD's that offer the best price to GB ratio? Ideally something that would last as long.

I'm sorry. it's just that people have been brainwashed into thinking that is normal and acceptable for technology to last around a decade then replace it. /retro/ knows better, and we as consumers should demand better from manufactures. I know, I know... never gonna happen. hardware should last several hundred years. is that to much to ask?
Wd my book 8tb have a red inside, and are only $180

Nah I feel you my dude, I have a 2.5in IDE HDD from like 2001 that is still going strong, but I feel like there is a lot more shit that can go wrong nowadays
>>61599297
I have 2 barracudas from 2002, 40gb each. One of them has a bad sector, sadly. Another one is okay.

To be honest, HDDs are mechanical, so 10 years is a pretty long time for them to last.

i don't think it's a matter of being brainwashed. the kind of hardware you're talking about would cost significantly more than today's shit, and normies just aren't into to paying for it. supply and demand and all that shit, or whatever.

These are the cheapest storage per terabyte. You can also find 3TB models for ~$60.

Not at all. I'm only here for storage advice.

Those look very very good, almost too good for the price. Were they mass-produced then sold off after their usage in servers or something? Definitely keeping an eye on those, thanks.

Mine died on me recently too. Had it since 2010. It had my steam install, but I had several games installed on my WD blue 500. So when it died (I was playing GTA V at the time), my computer flipped it's shit.

Probably. The refurb 3TBs I bought listed something like 1.5yrs of power-on time in SMART. They've given me no problems so far.

i have a 2GB maxtor diamond from 1989 or 1990 that refuses to die
>too bad 2GB is pretty much worthess
>too bad IDE is obsolete as fuck

That's also very very good looking. Might buy one or two of those once the paycheck comes, but for now I think I'm just gonna get a HGST 2TB as the previous anons said, since I just need something to replace the old Seagate for as little money and time as I can.

Have server at work, turned on in 1996, never turned off after that.
Original 2x2.1 ibm branded scsi drives still spinning, no strange noises or anything.
It's not even in climate controlled environment and has no ups.
