you have to remember when he started writing Minecraft he had no idea it would blow up like it did. It was supposed to be kind of a proof of concept. Java made building it quick and easier than doing so in C++ plus the modding scene grew extremely fast due to it being Java. With hindsight I am sure he would have preferred to use another language but he still made a literal fuck tonne of money from it and it is one of the most successful games of all time even if it does run kinda shit

i downloaded the game recently for my hot little brother and i think they did (notch is out of it now i think) a pretty good job with Java and a game full of cubes (even under the ground) (compared to itself in the same machine years ago)

or Oracle made Java run better
