There are other options in the feh manpage.

Can I install RetroPi or a similar emulation frontend (like Kodi) on top of an existing Raspbian install on a Raspi3?
I'd rather not reformat my SD card with that shit. I've done a lot of stuff to get this install how I want it and I'd hate to lose everything
>>
>>61584001
It should work on an emulator like Nox. You can fake the location to wherever you live.

I got some bluetooth headphones as a hand me down and one of the earpieces is busted. That's not a problem for me as I'm deaf in one ear anyway, but I can't see the option to set the audio to mono in either sound settings on control panel or the bluetooth device's settings. I'm sure I updated the bluetooth drivers as well.

Am I SOL? I'm running W7, if that helps.
>>
>>61584126
There's a balance option, at least for regular speakers or the headphones jack. Not sure if it just cuts one channel completely or moves the stereo sound to one channel only.
>>
Why am I not tired now at 1am, but between 4 and 6 pm at my job I'm practically falling asleep? What do?
>>
>>61584181
Watch porn on your phone in the bathroom or something. You don't even have to jerk off, it'll wake you up by instinct.
>>
>>61584167
I can adjust the balance with regular headphones and earbuds, but not with my bluetooth ones. All i've found were the option to switch between 44100 hz and 48000 hz (both on a 2 channel setup) or just cut one channel completely without moving the sound to the other channel.
>>
>>61584187
But what about falling asleep?
>>
>>61584235
Staying awake allows you to fall asleep better, so the fixing the latter will fix or at least help fix the former.
You could try working out near the end of your day, or you could try jerking off before you sleep.

Stupid questions incoming.

Where should I learn the intro to networking? I'm currently a double major of CS/CE, but I feel like I need to learn the essentials to networking stuff. I downloaded Computer Networking - A Top Down Approach by Kurose and Ross.

Where can I learn the basics of Linux and understand it more thoroughly? I also downloaded Linux From Scratch, but I want to use the arch or gentoo distro. Would this fit with the material of the book?
>>
>>61584331
>Where can I learn the basics of Linux and understand it more thoroughly?
Install arch or gentoo and immerse yourself in it. It's probably the best way to learn it and it's how I learned it.
>>
>>61584009
I don't know what retropi is but kodi and retroarch are in the debian repos so I assume they are in the raspbian ones too. You should just be able to install them like normal.

The issue with CCNA is that if you actually want to work with networking it's a great way to get your foot on the door in any corp.
It also isn't too hard, and knowing cisco shit should make it easy to work with Linux stuff since a lot of commands are similar.

Just snagged an 8TB external WD from Best Buy on sale, couple questions:

1) I ultimately plan to strip it from the enclosure and use it as an internal drive, but I'd like to make sure it's healthy before that. What's the recommended procedure for checking a new drive? (I'm on W7 btw)

2) The drive came with some WD bloat that I assume I don't need, but there's an installer and the readme says
>"Run WD Discovery.exe to install WD software to help you get a backup plan and modify drive settings."
Am I fine deleting this? What settings does it even mean?

Is there a way to count the percentage of zeroes in a raw disk image? 2 days ago I accidentally deleted a file on my phone, went through a guide to image the data partition and ran photorec on it. But it didnt find what I was looking for, only old files and thumbnails, interestingly no file is over 30mb. I heard this happens because android now has trim enabled like ssd's, so I would like to count how many zeroes there are in the raw image with a hex editor so I can confirm trim nuked my file for good. How does dual booting actually work?

I used MacOS exclusively for years, but I just ordered a Thinkpad with Win7, and I want to dual boot with Debian – Debian for daily use, Win7 for photo/audio/video editing and any other misc. unsupported programs.

I just don't know what that entails. Will I enter a key combo that chooses what OS I boot into? Can you still see files between both OS if you save it in a format compatible with both?

Also, question #2: how the fuck do I choose where to save application files to in Debian? I end up just saving everything to the desktop in one root partition. I don't know how to actually organise it. Also, where can you see a list of every package you install, and where they're located?

Forgive me, really new to all of this and slightly retarded, I imagine this all has obvious answers. I just can't seem to Google the right keywords to find out.

You generally get a GRUB selection screen where you choose the OS you want to boot with arrow keys. You can see the files on both operating systems as long as you save them on a partition with NTFS.

>how the fuck do I choose where to save application files to in Debian?
You shouldn't be choosing at all: let the package manager do its job. Programs go into /bin(or /sbin in some cases), libraries go into /lib, config files to go /etc (and the user's homefolder for user specific settings), and so on. See http://lug.oregonstate.edu/blog/fshguide/

If you've got enough malware to make your computer slow down, you have bigger problems. You need to be more careful about where you get your shit from. Don't run shady software, opt out of extra programs during install. Really look into where all your programs come from. Don't pirate shit. Now is probably a good time to start over and do a clean install. Then make sure you're using ublock origin in your browser, use bitdefender and run ADWcleaner occasionally. Paid AV is usually overkill.

would someone please help me understand how my computer thinks? coincedentally, im studying for my numerical methods test right now.

symptom : unprovoked random CPU spikes, typically when using chrome but not always. renders everything unclickable. things that were already playing will continue to do so for the next minute before stopping (if online) or looping recent couple of minutes (if saved to HDD).
similarly : when i close all applications and should have my computer at idle, i will hear it spin up like its working/under load however theres nothing running. my cpu runs hot;but shouldnt it only get hot when under load? im water cooled, but does it just sit there and slowly creep up in temp then kick the fans on to cool it back down and then it slowly creeps back up? i use to monitor its temps with CPU-Z and/or speccy and never noticed anything like that. and ive timed its random spinups, its not a consistent intervals.

its frustrating, but more frustrating because i dont understand whats happening.

thanks

i concur

what is a little concerning is that this issue persists from one OS to another. it was happening in win7, soi fully wiped my HDD and reinstalled 7, kept happening. wiped and installed 10, still happening. is it hardware? should i replace my ram? its 'patriot viper' ram i bought in 2013 when i built the computer

Again, sounds like it's Windows' fault. Install an OS that isn't Windows if you want to see if it's your hardware or not

AVs are helpful, but people put WAY too much faith in them. If I ever actually got a positive confirmation of real malware, I wouldn't even bother scanning for it. I would just wipe the OS and scan the externals from the other side. There's just too much shit that can hide in your OS indefinitely without any visible signs. And pirating pretty much makes infections inevitable.

not sure exactly what kind of answer you're looking for here, but ARM was first introduced back when there was still some amount of competition as far as desktop cpu architectures went, it was part of a "homegrown" british education computer line
i guess it's more recent surge in usage is thanks at least partly due to ease or cost in licensing, it's not just one company producing ARM-compatible chips

Because no-one was innovating on mips and sparc was out of favor

I see it going the same as it is now. No desktop shit. Comparative in low power applications. They have to good a partnerships with licensees for risc-v or whoever to eat their lunch any time soon.

However, I can pick up a 1700+X370 Taichi+16GB G.Skill F4-3200C14D-16GVK (Samsung B-Die), and my total will be $900.

Is it worth $50 to basically have a "sure thing" 3200MHz for my RAM? I couldn't care less about RGB LEDs.

Pick Windows UEFI Mode.
If nothing works, you may have to repair Windows with an installation media or even reinstall them, I suppose. Though you may want to ask someone else as well.

Are there passive adapters for a composite input into a hdmi output?
My cheap tv I bought only has 4 inputs and 3 of them are hdmi (the fourth is for an ant. in), but my dvd player uses composite output.
Alternatively, is it possible to convert a composite signal into the kind that an antenna input would accept? (Doesn't seem likely to me.)

>>
>>61591312
yes.
Memory leaks occur in a continually running program.

When a program is exited then the memory is no longer reserved for that program (unless if your kernel improperly handles memory)

But a running program with a memory leak can eventually cause a PC to crash if the program is never terminated and at some point exhausts all memory

not him, but most if not all of the 5th gen video game consoles had adapters that converted composite output from the console to RF for older televisions without composite inputs
i've actually used a spare playstation RF adapter with non-playstation things before, all it takes is composite/audio in, and 5 volts (which i sourced from USB)
>I have other devices that use composite as well, such as my old camcorder that uses tapes (8mm I think), and I'm not prepared to buy specialized players for them.
fair enough

keep in mind RF is even lower quality again, and doesn't really do dvd justice, but it's something like a 14" CRT (mine was), then it barely matters

My internet crashes like every 10 minutes or so for me making internet games almost virtually impossible. I tried changing the wires. I called the ISP to change modem and even changed channels and repositioned my router and I'm STILL crashing. Some days there's zero crashing and sometimes it's fine.

Where should I investigate now? I feel like I tried everything.

actually, this sounds like your phone is doing a ton of background shit.

If you install a bunch of shite on your phone try uninstalling it and see if it helps. If not, buy a new battery. (its probably a comination of both -- a bad battery caused by your phone continually doing a bunch of background stuff)

yea, that one in particular is for the original model playstations, with the rca plugs on the back
these two are more common
they'll all do the trick, though (the common avmulti ones'll be easier to modify though, since one can simply cut off the avmulti connector, and solder/twist on 3 rca connectors and a usb or other 5v connector)

This is a Pajeet tech support question.

Ill try to help anyways. What type of internet are you using? telephone? cable? fiber? radio?

Are you plugged in with a wire or wifi?

What exactly to you mean by 'your internet crashes'? Do you loose internet connectivity? Are you unable to connect to wifi? Does your browser terminate?

I was in the middle of making a new Twitter account when I got locked out due to some retarded bullshit about exhibiting bot behavior or something?

I entered my phone number, (it's a land line, I don't have cell service,) and they called me with a verification code, which I typed in, (perfectly, I absolutely did not fuck it up,) and then got this screen.

What the fuck do I do?
>>
>>61591726
I'll take the crown for stupid question then.
By crash, I mean the entire house goes out and everybody online is booted off everything from regular to 5g and lasts between a couple of seconds to a minute or two. Additionally, you cannot connect back either for that length. The computer however still says I'm connected and is full bars.

I'm using cable.

The router/modem is on the 1st floor while I live on the 3rd floor. I additionally use a plug in extender for better connectivity upstairs. Mind you, when the internet goes off, everything including the extender is off as well.

So far I've

1.Release/Renew/Flush
2.Changed router
3Changed modem
4.Swapped cables

Sounds like you should:
Reset modem and router to factory defaults

>5G
i dont understand how you are using cable and 'everyone is booted off everything from regular to 5g' unless if your talking about the 5ghz wifi band

If this fails it sounds like it is an issue with the ISP either: providing proper service or with with cable wiring in the house/from house to ISP

This sounds mostly like a problem somewhere with the ISP.

The next time it happens:
Run a traceroute from your PC. See how far you get.
Do you hit your wifi router? do you hit your modem? does it stop at the ISP server?

compare this traceroute to one when the internet is functinioning and you will see where the problem is so you know what to tell the ISP next time you call

5ghz band sorry.

I'm using TP-Link so could I use the website to factory setting the thing?
Additionally, how do you reset a modem?
Probably the last question I had so feel free to call me retarded if that helps.
>>
>>61591930
click on the security icon in the top left and view the certificate to make sure you are actually visiting facebook's website.

after that is verified leave a tech support problem on the facebook forums
>>
>>61592050
keep in mind a factory reset will reset all wifi passwords and configuration settings.

Before you do this you may want to try running the traceroute procedure to see if your equipment is really the problem. Run this procedure once when the internet is working and once when it is not and compare.

To factory reset there is generally a small recessed button on the back of the equipment. hold it in with a paperclip for 20 seconds or so. Make sure you know the proper steps to reconfigure your device (like default user name and login) before you do this.
>>
Let's say that after running traceroute you discover that your Internet traffic is being routed through lots of different IPs which are known for eavesdroping.

Is there a way to bypass some of these IPs? Or is end-to-end encryption the only solution?
