Be a smart kid and buy a book on C11. Write some toy programs or join a project (mpv?) in order to gain some experience. If you already know C, there's a good guide out there teaching you how to write modern C.

Knowing some GUI frameworks helps your resume, like QT or WX. Boost helps.

Also since it is mostly used in engineering applications one way or another (performance critical software, games, etc) having an academic background in engineering, math or CS is pretty much a requirement
