I used Gnome or shitty shells on it like Unity for a long time. Then I moved to KDE and got tired of waiting 5 minutes for the calculator to open. I found XFCE a few years back and it's just right. Been using it since then.

True, but it works out of the box. i3 requires a shitload of configuration and looks like absolute garbage out of the box. Hell, 99% of the riced configs for it still look like garbage. Also keyboard shortcuts like that are a meme. There's a reason why everyone except you likes pointing devices.
