The OpenSSH guy is serious. It has a built-in SFTP server. Anything you can SSH to you can point an SFTP client at (the Filezilla client will work) Anyone who has credentials for SSH on that server can use it to read and write anything their account would have permissions to on the server. It's protected by the same strong crypto as SSH. And its free software and any Linux or BSD of your choice comes with it.
