This. I just a T440P, swapped the RAM and HDD for 8GB and an SSD and ended up with a completely capable 1080p laptop for <£350.

This is the exact same thinking I have. Not a Thinkpad, but still a nice old SB business laptop. Works well, has some really neat practical features you just won't find on new stuff, and was cheap af and don't have to worry about breaking it.
