This thing frequently goes on sale, but it's at the lowest it's ever been so far and you can rip it open and get a 8 TB WD Red. What more can one ask for?

Recent Seagates are a lot more reliable. Also Toshiba are fairly good now too. HGST are the best still but they are fucking noisy for desktop use (I have a 2TB Ultrastar I put in the other day. You can really hear it ticking loud when it's not idle).

I am in a toss up with buying either a 8TB Seagate or 6TB Toshiba as they are closely priced depending where you shop.

>buying WD Reds without realizing why WD wants it sold out

It's a shit drive which consistently fails and WD is replacing it. Also, a NAS drive is not meant for PCs, it's meant for RAID configuration only. Google TLER, basically the tl:dr is, if you get an error, the NAS drive will shutdown immediately instead of trying to solve the error.

>How do you use up 16TB?

Data hoarding basically, but like others have said hoarding data does actually make some sense when you consider how easily torrents can disappear or dry up. Also unlike hoarding physical shit, you can hoard absolutely massive amounts of data in a space the size of a small NAS or two which makes it pretty attractive for people that want to have media stored locally unlike the netflix everything normies.

If it is interesting enough for me to download, I generally don't delete it unless 1) it's unbelievably corrupted or otherwise horrible 2) virus 3) I am really desperate for space. Currently have so many 2 TB HDDs that are over 90% full I have to estimate that have "about 12" because I'm not willing to check around my house for where they all are. Then I have 2 x 3 TB HDDs and 4 x 4 TB HDDs.

Further, redundancy is a Thing. Quite a bit of what I have (most of my music, all the premium top-quality rips of anime plus a few top-tier movies, some hard to find games) have multiple copies. Usually three, but at least two. In a pinch I can delete the least important copies but, honestly, a couple times a year I run across a good enough deal on mass storage that I just add to the total.

Example, just bought two of these, $100 each:

No other HDD currently available can beat these for low failure rate, and almost nothing can match them. By the end of this weekend they will be filled with FLACs, and the 2 TB HDDs that most of those FLACs will come off of will be reconditioned and put into other service (such as, the 2 in worst condition will go into my home torenting box and I'll run them until they die there ... which will probably take 3 or more years).

I have a movie and TV HDD that's 5TB and totally packed. In fact, I only 16GB left. Not a single porn on it. Just all my favy movies and TV shows in 1080p (mostly)

I need two drives. One for use, and one for backup. The last thing I want to do is lose my movie and TV collection, that I spent 6 years procuring to a corrupted HDD.

Not much of a hoarder myself but I have been doing it lately after nyaa shutdown.
It is nice being able to browse through you collection and rewatch instantly since downloading takes a good while sometimes there aren't any seeders.

Thinking of just writing a script that fetches folder names and lists them with newline delimiter so I can redownload what I could not salvage later in case of hard drive failure.
Buying a second 8TB for redundancy is just too much.
Wish we had this deal here 160 USD for even a shitty 8TB is a steal would have jumped at the chance. Payed way more for an 8TB deskstar NAS.

How much porn do you people need? 8 tb at even 1080p is over 150 days worth of 24/7 non stop watching. Don't you people need to sleep?

As a guy with over 9TB of porn, it's not so much about watching it all, it's about ensuring that when you want to watch a particular video/girl/fetish/etc, that you'll have what you want instantly available.

If all you ever fap to is "generic blonde takes it in the ass from generic busted-up looking dude" then yeah, I guess tube sites are fine, but if you're picky and/or have specific tastes, it pays to save good porn whenever you can find it.
>>
>>61560776
I'll be using it for TV shows and movies. I've only got 7TB total right now and I'm running out as fast as my Internet connection allows

I own six of them. I scrub them weekly and they've given me no problems. Unlike the bought-new seagate that started coughing up checksum errors in under four years.

My anime archive is reaching the limit of the 4TB drive I use for it, and that doesn't even include my backlog, which is another 1.5 TB.

Other kinds of files I have on my computer don't take up nearly as much space. For example, all of my hundreds of thousands of porn images are still under about 270 GB.

My server's storage is almost full. Thank god I've got a pair of 2TB drives I can toss in if I need them. Am thinking of getting a 10TB or 2 5TB drives at some point to have a 2nd backup of everything.

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
