I forget where I got these but they're great since you plug a male to male aux cable into them, instead of them having their own cable coming out, so they can pretty much last forever if you fix it when the bands snap or the headphone jack comes loose inside etc. Had to saw off some of the plastic for there to be room to plug in USB and had to find an old miniUSB cable but that worked for a while once before my new aux cables arrived. Probably going to use these for many more years. The model is Polaroid something

Crazy ex broke into my place and broke most of my shit. M50X, AD900X, PSB 300's, and Paradigm Titan V3's (inb4 lawsuit, already in progress). I liked the sound quality on the M50X and the AD900X, but I'm looking for some input on replacement(s). Money isn't necessarily an issue. I have a bit older Denon (DRA-375RD) stereo receiver that somehow survived her you-caught-me-cheating tantrum, and I'm at least used to the quality of sound from the aforementioned equipment, and was looking for some "dont buy 'x', advice. Apologies if the speaker part isn't relevant in an HPG thread, but I'm considering some Monitor Audio Bronze 2's for speakers. Any other input for that price range (~$550 USD) would be awesome.

Otherwise, I'm looking for some input for headphones around the level of the M50X and the AD900X. What's available in that price range for either or both designs? I prefer having at least one pair of open and closed headphones for different listening styles. I am not partial to Audio Technica, but I haven't found anything I like the fit/sig/price as much yet. Any recommendations? :)

Nope. She broke my PC (Fractal Define R5/Mobo/GTX 980 Ti FTW/2x1TB SSD), 3 monitors (2 Dell 27" Ultrasharps, and an Asus PA279Q), Corsair K70 RGB, an OG Steelseries Sensei and a little trooper MX518 I've had for about 10 yrs, a custom desk I built and CNC'd myself...the list goes on for a while. That's just the stuff in the immediate vicinity of the audio stuff, the Paradigm's were out in the LR with the TV, a 65" Q7F. Shitty little wal-mart hammer right through the middle of it.

My trusty little Velodyne 12" Sub I bought from a pawn shop several years ago went unharmed. Just a rage trip, luckily overlooking random stuff. :(

>>61515582
I dunno, I've never been able to find a pair of open headphones that has as deep and fast bass accuracy as opens, but I've never found closed headphones with imaging and wide and open mids/highs. I love opens for reasons I'd never love closed for, but I like to have one of each if I can.

>>61515614
I'll look into both. Thank you! I think my local Guitar Center has both. I'm not very familiar with the Beyerdynamic's, but I've seen it talked about that the 80-ohm stuff should be avoided, in favor of the higher impedance stuff.

Whats the difference between the HD 598 and the HD 598 SR? The SR are like $150 off in Canuckistan, is there any appreciable difference?

120Hz LCDs do exit, Pavel.
>>
>>61515818
SE and SR are black and have an extra shorter cable. They're otherwise identical to HD598, sound and build.
SR fits a mic.
CS are absolute garbage, closed, hold no relation to HD598, use HD380 drivers with considerable extra niggerbass. CS do sound bad, be careful to avoid them.
>>
>>61515881
CS was a write off from the beginning, but considering the price difference I'll definitely go with the 598 SR.

That is if I can get over the fact that they were $60 cheaper a week ago on Prime day and I missed it...
>>

I'm not really enjoying mine nearly as much as I could, because of the lack of bass, and I know it's capable of more bass (I just press the cups harder against my head for a better seal). It just feels "empty", "unfulfilling", and "wrong", simply because of that. I'm actually enjoying my DT1350 way more, because it doesn't have that problem. I think if I attach an annulus of leathery material to the part of the velour pads that makes contact with the head it will do a lot of good.

>>
>>61516908
Sorry in advance for the wall of text.

As for detail, resolution and overall technical ability, they're more or less equal. Aside from that they're nearly opposites in every way. The T1 is treble-centric -- you hear more treble, and it's higher quality treble. As for the LCD-2, which is dark and bass-centric, again there is more bass; and it's also higher quality.

Using a simple example, I might use the T1s and notice that a song has really good sounding snares and cymbals. Using the LCD-2, I might think that same song has a really good bass line and not even notice the cymbals and snares. They definitely change the perspective of a song.

Aside from that, the LCD-2 also has a smaller soundstage and thicker, rounder sound. The T1 is more open sounding, has faster transients, and is sharper and more crisp. Like I said they're pretty much opposites and complement each other well. Same reason why people get an LCD-2 and an HD800.

I know this is for headphones but I figured this would be the place where I could get an answer.

Bought a SMSL Sap-8 and I'm about to return it because the amazon link had a wrong name for it, it said "SMSL M6" so I bought it. Decided to give it a listen first and it powers my X2's really well (onboard audio was never as loud nor as spacious) but that's it. Is not like I will be bleeding my ears out every day because of the volume.

Today I bought a Creative ZX sound card which, according to its description, can run up yo 600 ohm headphones (I'd like to get some Beyer DT 770s and Senn HD 650 before the year ends).

So my question is (before I return the sap-8), is the ZX good vs a standalone Amp?

Holy shit. I never got it when people talked about piercing highs in headphones, but now that I have the Sennheiser 598SR I fucking get it.

Listening to some of Ennio Morricone's pieces with those headphones is like ramming redhot knitting needles into your ears.

Luckily, I'm not past the 14 days return window and can send them back without trouble.

The frequency response is a mess. It's based on the HD380 drivers, but the setting for this headphone makes bass absurdly high (niggerbass) and the rest of the spectrum is affected very negatively.
I've not tried them myself, but at the very least reviewers seem to agree with that. Both pros and random people in forums only talk badly about these. They have infamy.

DT1350 have the split headband, so they're more comfortable and you can get a better seal. There is some sound difference as well, but you'll have to do your own research on that one.

Looking to get myself my first good quality pair of headphones or earbuds, I'll max out my price range at 400. My last pair was the Bose Soundsports, and I wasn't all too impressed. I just need headphones that are great for commutes and sitting back to listen for a few hours. Don't care if they're wired or wireless, and they don't necessarily have to be noise cancelling as long as they're fine to listen to on transit. I don't know if it matters, but I listen to a lot of music with either guitars or electronica in it. Anyone know of any good options?

http://north-america.beyerdynamic.com/press/press-releases/press-detail/article/dt-1350-dt-1350-cc-mobile-tesla-technology-for-studio-professionals.html
The DT 1350 Tesla headphones were introduced two years ago as the first professional Tesla headphones on the market, and have since garnered praise from numerous experts. beyerdynamic engineers have carefully optimized the design of the DT 1350 to offer even more practical advantages. In the new DT 1350, the proven durability of the housing with its 90° rotating ear shells has been enhanced with optimized components for demanding applications. Parts including the headband padding which are subject to high stress can now easily be replaced by the user to ensure uninterrupted use of the headphones. The DT 1350 was designed with a relatively high contact pressure to ensure optimum sound insulation even in loud environments. The ear cushions of the new DT 1350 have been expanded from 63 to 67 mm to better distribute the pressure of the supra-aural earphones and provide a more comfortable fit.
Softskin cushions are fitted as standard but these can be replaced with an optional artificial nubuck leather type, which provides added comfort and delivers slightly lower ambient noise isolation.
To ensure that the DT 1350 is securely connected to the source, this model features an elongated 1.5 m connection cable with extremely durable polyurethane sheathing to protect it from being crushed, e.g. if a case is accidentally closed on it during transport. The optional DT-Extension studio-quality 3 m extension cable with a combined 3.5/6.3 mm jack plug and the same heavy-duty polyurethane sheathing is also available. The extension with a 3.5 mm stereo jack socket is threaded for a completely secure connection to the cable or the plug of the headphones.

Aw drats, you're right! Since frequency response is everything, I should just go buy 99 cent earbuds from my local gas station and EQ them so they sound like the Senneheiser Orpheus!

What affordable headphone is better?. I cant fucking wait for this.
>>
>>61529180
More detail, better instrument separation, more/better sounding bass, instruments sound more realistic, etc.

The HD600 is a great headphone and I think it's the best recommendation at its price for anyone who isn't a metalhead/bass lover, but it sounds fuzzy and compressed compared to more expensive headphones.

Either way you should be happy that you like your HD600s so much. It's a blessing.
>>
>>61529627
But I've owned the HD800. Kept the T1 because I got em for $400.

Have you listened to them? What's your issue with the T1?
>>
>>61529606
I actually do advocate EQ'd $10 HJE120s for IEM use. They sound fantastic, are super comfortable and have very passable distortion measurements post-EQ.
>>
>>61529675
I have listened to them. They sound metallic and, like most Beyers, have no fucking mids.
>>
>>61529704
Sounds like you're just bad at using EQ.
>>
>>61529657
>niggerbass
Not touching that, since that's beyond my comprehension.
>metalhead
Why? I'm a metalhead with HD600 and I love how it does metal. I've found coloring has this tendency to drag pitch in metal, probably because of the noise texture width of the frequency spectrum. It just sounds terrible in most headphones. HD600 makes it actually enjoyable.
>>
>>61529737
Some people don't want to bother with EQ, and if you're just going to EQ then an HD800 is a much better choice than a T1. There's absolutely no reason to buy a T1. It's a bad sounding headphone with inferior soundstage/imaging and comfort to HD800.

Anyone here got experience with headphones/iems on airplanes? What do you use?

Does there exist a perfect tradeoff point between isolation, sound quality and comfort? Or will it always be a 'pick two' type deal.

Plz reply,
>>
>>61529770
I tried them, rev 2, along with HD800 in one shop. Besides sound differences they also had different way of presenting soundstage. T1 had really pin point instrument separation and ok width, HD800 had just tiny bit worse separation but retarded width. Overall I liked HD800 stock more because even despite resonance, T1 peak was very fatiguing.
>>
>>61530022
You're welcome to your opinion but it's contrary to the majority opinion that the HD800's imaging is unparalleled.
>>
>>61529997
? You convinced me. Gonna donate all my headphones to Goodwill and EQ my new 50 cent earbuds so they sound the same as my T1s and LCD-2s. Technical ability doesn't exist.
>>
>>61530098
Fucking hate being out of the loop.
I'll restate my questions:
- What is technical resolution?
- How do you measure technical resolution?
- What unit is is measured in?

Are the ATH-MSR7 a good upgrade from the ATH-M50?

All the research I have been doing leads me to believe so, plus with a small amp I think I could be satisfied. Maybe one day I will really splurge on a pair of 600 or 650 with a killer amp/dac but for now... Just asking for opinions.

Also how does that massdrop thing even work?
>>
>>61529770
>>61530022
I've owned and used the T1s regularly for over 2 years, and I fully agree that they have horrendously treble spikes.

However, EQ them down and you find yourself with a very good headphone. I agree that it has superior instrument separation to the HD800s, and I also prefer its smaller but still huge soundstage compared to the HD800's retardedly large one.

Also the T1s have much better bass.

Properly EQ'd SE215s will have the same amount of isolation as QC35s, will sound great and will be comfortable:

Note the isolation measurements. Nearly identical.

Figures.
>>
>>61530198
>>61530225
A metallic whir at the frequency of 1.4k Hz is recorded.

A technically competent headphone is able to reproduce extremely tiny gaps of silence in between the sounds, transient volume changes, and the texture of the sound as it's heard in nature.

99 cent earbuds can easily mimic the volume (dB) and the frequency (Hz), but these clearly present auditory details will be lost.

These changes are less noticeable among headphones such as the HD600 and the HD800, but they can empirically be heard.

Seriously, please stop shitposting.
>>
>>61530300
That's not objectively defined using measurable metrics.

do open IEMs exist? I want something that's both pocketable and doesn't make me deaf to the outside world.

>>61530300

Earbuds (or anything that touches the ears) are very itchy and uncomfortable to me, so that's a no-no.

>>
>>61530440
Yeah but what's technical resolution bro?
>>
>>61530433
Nice response, guess you can't answer my question.

If there is no such thing as different levels of technical ability in gear, why don't you use gas station earbuds and EQ them?

Since you clearly can't answer this I'll leave you with the question until you can.
>>
>>61530481
That doesn't answer my question.

I run everyday and spend most of my time outside, rain or sun. While outside I always listen to podcasts or music on my Sony AS200s, but they are often drowned out by outside noise. What are the best IEMs for my situation (outside, rain, movement/sprinting)?
>>
>>61530481
No, I'm completely on board with what >>61529202 (You, I assume) said. I don't listen to gas station earbuds because they have zero technical resolution, unlike my Beyers that have like 50 technical resolutions. I have no idea what that means, but I guess that makes two of us, right?
>>
>>61530481
If there's no such thing as god, why don't you become one with your technical ability?

Buying 600s does
>>
>>61530738
It's probably because I would slip them off instead of properly stretching them off my ear, and the constant abrasion tore the seam. As is they are mostly open and the foam inside is exposed.
