LZMA2, but you should use tar + xz instead.

In terms on encryption, it's guaranteed to be marginally better than zip (will always use aes-256-cbc), but unfortunately it uses plain sha256 as the KDF, and there is no salt implemented for the aes function (why the fuck would anyone intentionally leave that part out?).

7zip is a better format overall, but it's not without its problems. Use it if you have to.

Again, hands down best is tar + xz
Openssl for encryption, AFTER compression obviously.

Just use win rar, it just werks (tm)
