What are the downsides?
I can't stand Windows and Linux but want more bang for my buck than a Mac Pro so I'm thinking about going balls deep on a hackintosh build.
Pros:

Like the other guys says, it's really hardware dependent. Laptops have problems with wifi, sleep etc. AMD processors can have issues as can certain onboard graphics.
Read up and see if it'll work with your stuff
