Ryzen doesn't look appealing too me.

I've got an old Acer Aspire netbook here with an intel Atom and 2 GB Ram kinda like yours. It's keyboard is super comfy and I want to revive it.

Can you guys suggest me a lightweight Linux distro for it? Will Ubuntu Mate be light enough for it's weak CPU or is Lubuntu better fit? I knew LXLE as the lightest one but it kinda sucks.

And please no Arch as I have no time to mangle with it, for cool as it may be.

Still plays Skyrim on high settings at 720p 60fps
after the recent updates CS:GO is no longer playable though, not sure why

Not that bad actually, had worse PCs like a Pentium 4 with Radeon 7000 Graphics and a Core2Duo with GMA graphics and a fucking S-Video port, this is more akin in performance to a Thinkpad based on specs.
Got 8GB canibalizing a stick from an older AMD laptop who couldn't even beat a common Atom PC.
Planning on getting some of those chink eGPU for a kinda-gaming PC on my room

I took the SSD out of my X201 and stuck it in this Toshiba Satellite to see how it would run Xubuntu. Previously my uncle had Windows 7 installed on it with a bunch of bloatware and it ran like total shit. Pretty much unusable.

With the SSD and a tweaked Xubuntu it runs pretty good. Still slow for things like streaming HD video online. 720p youtube via the browser is not 100% perfect. VLC network stream playback easily fixes that, however.

RetroArch runs well, and games look pretty good on the glossy screen. I will probably set this up in the living room of my parents house for my niece to play games on when she is over.
