Anon from here >>61450674 , tried the solution suggested here >>61450756 but it failed.
I first tried with PhotoRec, and I thought the file type I wanted to recover could be unsupported, but it managed to list older deleted files that were in a different folder, and they were of the same file type i wanted to recover, so it should see the ones I need to recover, but they're nowhere to be found.
It did list a folder named exactly like the ones containing the files i needed to recover, but once restored, it was an empty folder.
I tried with TestDisk, and while it managed to recover a lot of files even from months ago and ones of the same file type of the ones i need to recover, the exact files i need to recover were not found.

Still, right clicking on the USB stick and checking the used space, they still take space, so they should still be there.
Anyone has any other solution to suggest?

If everything fails, at least a way to regain the space that is supposedly used by these files i can't seem to recover, without formatting the whole stick.

I bought a pair of earbuds a year ago. Bluetooth, escape brand like pic related. Initially they sounded not so good but I kept it anyway. About a month into use, I think I dropped it and was pressing some buttons that ended up changing its language and then the audio quality got a whole lot better

Unfortunately, those ones broke and now I bought a new one and would like to figure out how to change the audio quality or even the language, It's nowhere to be found on this tiny manual and google isn't helping. Anyone here know? They're Escape brand bluetooth headset, SPBT2

>If everything fails, at least a way to regain the space that is supposedly used by these files i can't seem to recover, without formatting the whole stick.
Probably not. It sounds like the file system was borked. So quarity. This is why you need to back up.
>>
>>61451861
if same-type files are being restored, then the files you want are likely overwritten, fragmented, or damaged (a damaged header will make the file unrecognizable)

>a way to regain the space that is supposedly used by these files
you should backup and format it, the filesystem is damaged, and fat32, which i'm certain you're using, isn't robust enough to be certain there is no corruption after any kind of repairs performed

Someone mind helping with this First Order Logic? Converting sentence to FOL.

“Every student in the SCIS is a CS student or an IT student.
Therefore there is a student in the SCIS being a CS student or an IT student”

S(x): x is a student;
SCIS(x): x is in SCIS;
CS(x): x is CS student;
IT(x): x is an IT student

1st sentence:
Ax( S(x) <and> SCIS(x) --> CS(x) <or> IT(x) )

2nd sentence:
Ex( S(x) <and> SCIS(x) <and> (CS(x) <or> IT(x)) )

Is this correct?

How can you say that Windows 7/8 security updates don't have telemetry? They're closed source, so how do you know?
>>
>>61452163
>>61452209

Because they're intended for corporations that get pissed about that kind of data leaving their network. Sure microsoft could throw in another backdoor, but they don't need to. They've had those built in long before Windows 7 came along.
>>
>>61451926
>then the files you want are likely overwritten, fragmented, or damaged
Then they're damaged I guess, since after this folder disappearance i didnt use the stick at all except to check where this folder went, so i guess it's impossible for a 4kb cfg file being corrupted(the homebrew app froze/crashed while saving the configuration) to overwrite 3 over 600mb files and a bunch of 128kb files.
And i doubt they're fragmented, everytime i checked for fragmented files on this stick i never found anything except one time months ago.
>you should backup and format it
Yeah i'll do that
>and fat32, which i'm certain you're using, isn't robust enough
Being used on a PS2, is the only option i have for a flash drive, as the apps on it won't work on any different kind of filesystem unless they're stored on an HDD
>>

Yeah, which is why a lot of companies and corporations still use XP for their machines.
A corporation using W10 for any kind of purpose other than plain office work is just stupid.
>>
>>61451991
>there is a student in the SCIS being a CS student or an IT student

>>
>>61452216
>Because they're intended for corporations that get pissed about that kind of data leaving their network
No, if a company want's a special release then they pay for it. They don't you a general public one. Stop relying on some imaginary third party to protect you and look after yourself.
>>
>>61452231
They have heavily reduced telemetry. But microsoft is playing a different game with 10 entirely.

https://www.askwoody.com/2016/is-it-possible-microsoft-will-install-telemetry-in-a-security-only-update/

Basically you're weighing risks here. The odds of microsoft adding significant telemetry to the security addons without end users and corporations detecting the network traffic and raising a big stink are minimal. The odds of a growing list of network vulnerabilities leading to some russian hacker's botnet assimilating you grow the more updates you miss. If you're really concerned about silent backdoors waiting in your system then windows is and always has been a terrible option. Yes, even in the XP era.

It's propositional language. Logic semantics. It's supposed to be converted to propositional logic or first order logic. It's not supposed to sound like a normal human talking.

I'm assuming it means something along the lines of "There exists a student who is in the SCIS and who is a CS student or IT student." That;s what I'm basically asking though, if I'm correct in my conversions.

Ex( S(x) <and> SCIS(x) <and> (CS(x) <or> IT(x)) )

The amount of bandwidth needed for full HD at 60 fps is too much to just make it wireless. And there wasn't a big enough reason to make it wireless because most people only need to have it go from a box under their TV to their TV.
VR headsets seem to be pushing for wireless HDMI though, because the wire really gets in the way there.

Not that anon, but is there a good resource for writing a résumé/CV from scratch. I'm totally retarded about this stuff and want to stop being NEET.
>>
>>61453468
I wouldn't call it a career because it's mostly non-transferrable skills, but it's a decent choice for making money.

>>61453506
It's not that hard.
Your résumé's only purpose is to get invited to an interview. In the interview you'll be invited to talk about the things on your résumé in detail, so you don't need to explain anything or be very detailed on there.
The company may receive hundreds of résumés, so they'll take about thirty seconds to look at yours. If within those thirty seconds they understand just how many desktops you've riced, then you're in. So keep your CV one or two pages, keep the layout as clean as possible, don't include blocks of text because they can't scan through that quickly enough.

Include
- your name REALLY BIG ON TOP so that they can find it in that huge stack of other résumés.
- personal/contact details, duh
- work experience, most recent first, unless you have something very relevant you want them to see immediately, make sure it's very clear what your function was.
- education, most recent first, make sure it's very clear what level
- a breakdown of your skills in whatever manner you think will make them gist what to hire you for, DON'T FORGET SOFT SKILLS (lol who are you kidding, you autist.).
- hobbies and interests, especially when applying in europe, used for smalltalk in the interview.
- if you can find any, someone who agreed to be a reference.

picture is optional, and if you browse /g/ you might want to leave it out.
>>
>>61453506
>>61453753
Oh and this is how it's done in europe, where you generally attach it to an application letter. If you don't have an application letter you might want to include goals/motivation on your résumé

I've got a Windows 10 on a 2 TB Hard Drive. I'm thinking of getting a Linux distro and putting it on a new SSD that I would buy. I was going to try and reinstall Windows 10 on the SSD, but I realized that would be too much work for not a lot of gain (Windows 10 is still pretty fast on the hard drive for now), so I think I will keep the SSD Linux only.

I just upgraded my CPU, mobo, and CPU cooler. When I used to monitor my CPU temps with my old setup, the number stayed pretty consistent. Now with this new configuration, my monitoring software reports a high range of temperature. The new cooler I got is a tiny noctua low-profile cooler. I should've read reviews, because I thought this thing would be bigger. Is it just a shittier cooler than my old one (CM Hyper 212 EVO) or did I just poorly apply thermal paste? That's my lease favorite part of upgrading or building a computer. asrock used to do mini-itx boards with a shit ton of sata connectors if you were looking for that sort of thing, might still do, shop around for parts on various computer stores in your area or have a look at pcpartpicker

the destitute tier will technically be low power but generally efficient low power stuff (processors) comes at a bit of a premium, and generally you'll want to get an 80+gold at a minimum, the trade off is you're paying a higher cost for better equipment for less power draw in the long run where the power saving cost might not offset the increased premium

can't give you any particular hardware suggestions but there's a decently large 'diy nas' community although it has become normified so finding reliable information might be a bit tricky, you might also have luck with the pfsense forums as they're always on the lookout for good low power mini-itx or small form factor boards to serve as routers, and while I hate to say it reddit might be a decent source of information (esp the homeserver sub) but I recommend researching everything thoroughly independently, if you care about this project a bit that is (otherwise destitute tier is probably fine so long as it has enough sata slots or pcie expandability)

For some folders which worked fine until last week, none of the thumbnail/previews load, other folders/directories (downloads, recents) load the first 30 or so. Doesnt seem to matter if it's stored on internal or sd card

>>
>>61461649

while the theoretical answer is 'yes, entropy herp derp' harddrives and ssds generally have a decent amount of reliability in that data written to them will stay in that state for a decent amount of time(years), you're more likely to have ram errors while writing to the disk than bits being misread at a later date on harddrives

that said if you care about long term reliability of backups use an error correcting format, a single bitflip here or there might be bad but the chances of multiple errors rendering a redundant format useless is very low

you might run into negotiation/bandwidth issues, it depends on how cheap of an extender it is, but for mice/keyboards/flash drives it should be fine assuming there's enough power to go around, I have had issues plugging flash drives into keyboard hubs before but that was usb2.0 and might have been power related rather than an issue with linux in particular (it werked but there were minor issues with unplugging not removing it from the list of devices immediately)

You win a free DIY power monitor. You need something to communicate with that isn't on the UPS, but is powered by AC, that you can query regularly. If it doesn't answer, it's time to go to sleep. I'd look for multiple failures to answer, rather than just one, myself. How many queries and how far apart in time would depend on how long your UPS will hold up your system.

No, although after several years they might fail on their own. There is a maximum storage life for all media. If you're trying to store important data indefinitely, it is recommended to rotate it every couple of years, and have at least 2 copies. SSDs can sometimes lose data after a couple of months of not being powered up to restore the charge to the cells.

Then ping the modem periodically. You could also look for how to be notified by Windows when the connection drops, which has to be possible, since the networking icon in the notification area finds out about dropped connections. My Windows specific knowledge is way past its sell-by date, so I can suggest if you go for the second approach is to start searching with phrases like: "Windows network status listener" or "display network status in windows program."

Cloning windows to an SSD is balls simple with Macrium reflect. I think that would be more worth it than you think, but if you want you can easily put your media folders (my documents, desktop etc) on the HDD to save space. If you want comfy the samsung 850 250gb is good. If you want to save maxium $$ the basic sandisk 120gb's are still a great upgrade from HDD.

If you go with gnome for your DE then it will be a smooth transition next year when ubuntu finally kills unity. I think a lot of people are just going to stick with stock ubuntu at that point.

I have a problem with whatever is choosing the icon for files which weirdly enough only affects mpv
in the pic i´ve assigned mpv as the default for the webm filetype (and it works in the basic sense of it´s use ie starting in mpv) but the icon doesn´t change to the icon of mpv
mpv itself is a simple binary of a not installed program
for all it matters the flash player i´m using is the same but for it it takes on the icon
does anyone know why this happens?

The digitizer screen of my Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone was damaged so I sent it into a technology repair shop in town to replace the screen. It took a lot longer than I expected - two weeks - because they had to order the screen new.

I got the phone back today with a brand new screen, but the camera and flashlight is not functioning. The hardware is fine, they are connected up fine. But the software isn't recognizing them. I've reset the cache, and tried different applications just in case. I'm at a loss. What do I do?

Why does the supporting software have to be non-free? Stallman would say no, either make the supporting software free too, or don't make/use it at all.

Windows is practically free to manufacturers now, there's little gain in buying a laptop without it preinstalled. If it's still important to you, Chromebook Pixel is rather nice if you don't mind the tiny RAM and standard storage.

It depends on hard you want it locked down. What's to stop you from using a live ISO? Or booting into recovery?

Most simple things I'd suggest would be pretty fucking dangerous. Like a job to randomly set your password and set it back after a given time.

That sounds much more accurate. Upload is always low. ISPs like to charge people a lot more for high upload connections and call it business class. If you do it at all it will be a small miracle. And it will take WAY more than one router. You would need a separate network device connected to each network, then a way to merge them, which I'm guessing would take at a minimum a PFsense converted PC. With that you ~might~ be able to get different traffic streams to go on different networks, but you'd never be able to get say a netflix stream going over multiple networks simultaneously without a third party service. Then you would need a way to distribute this to your local network. You definitely wouldn't want to compound your latency and reliability problems by retransmitting over wifi.

Aite, sum strange shiet is going on in my homie's old notebook.
He says that recently, it started to shut down out of nowhere. Although I think that it was a cooling problem (which, I think, fried his hard drive), he insists that it's a virus.
So, here I am, trying to install Windows for him. Thing is; it won't allow me. Tried to scan what's going on with the BIOS hard drive diagnosis tool and it says that it's an hero. Moreso, now it won't boot without the CD, it says that bootmgr is missing; thing that I figured out that could be fixed by re-installing Windows (which I can't).
wat do? I believe that his hard drive is gone and done, but is it? Anything I can do?

You can't run PFsense on a pi. It's x86 only. Also they suck for networking in general. PFsense is open source. And network merging is less than ideal when you're just talking about merging two WIRED connections, like lines to two ISPs. Your network is going to be unreliable as fuck even if it's just merging a pair of wifi networks. This is a terrible idea that likely either won't work at all or will produce terrible results. And no, you can't just wrap your own VPN. This isn't a normal VPN we're talking about here. It's a company at the other end with the resources to reintegrate multiple streams, and they usually charge based on how much data you use. If you're heartset on connecting to multiple networks at once, just give each PC a different high gain card and don't connect them together at all. That's about as good as you're going to get in this situation.

Okay, so forget the raspberry pi, instead I use some type of rackmouted pc with a bunch of WiFi cards connected in each pcie lane. Instead of consolidation, what if I assigned each mac address on my private router to a specific network that the the pfsense device is connected to based on speed and banthwith? VPN really isn't a concern to me since it can just be entered in client side.
>>
>>61466073
>VPN really isn't a concern to me since it can just be entered in client side
This tells me that you still don't get what I'm taking about. It's not about the VPN. The VPN is just a means of connecting to the company. What matters is what they do at the other end. It's like trying to send something out on one port and have somebody receive it on another. It SEEMS like it should be possible, but there's really no way without a middleman out there doing the work for you.
